Ties strategic ... $700b Kuwaiti stake in US

KUWAIT CITY, May 19: Former Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Salem Al-Jaber has affirmed that his experience in diplomatic and political work stemmed from the school of foreign policy of HH the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad. Sheikh Salem Al-Jaber made the statement during his recent visit at the Abdulaziz Al-Dughaishem Diwaniya during which he praised the firm values and principles that HH the late Amir instilled in terms of the management of Kuwaiti foreign policy. He pointed out that the foreign affairs minister bears huge responsibilities, particularly building a big network of diplomatic relations with his counterparts around the world. He said 'there are more than 200 foreign affairs ministers throughout the world, hence, building strong relationships with them requires tremendous efforts and vast experience.' He also stressed the importance of maintaining bilateral relations, especially with Arab and friendly countries. He stated that 'the foreign affairs minister is one of the most important members of the government due to his vital role in overcoming obstacles and strengthening communication with the international community.' Moreover, Sheikh Salem Al-Jaber revealed that the volume of Kuwaiti investments in the United States of America is estimated at about $700 billion, describing them as a successful model for developing strategic relations between the two countries. He affirmed that US President Donald Trump sought to restore America's golden age in the Gulf region. He pointed out that President Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia 'is considered a pivotal moment in strengthening US relations with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.' He said the visit has important political dimensions, especially in light of disagreements over regional issues. Dean of Kuwaiti journalism Ahmed Al-Jarallah also attended the gathering. He said the country has had 46 governments, while underscoring the need to give the foreign affairs minister enough time to build strategic relationships in the interest of the State. Al-Jarallah asserted that the foreign affairs minister or ambassador must be wise, intelligent and with an amiable personality; citing as an example former Kuwaiti Ambassador to the United Kingdom Khaled Al-Duwaisan who served for 30 years and was the 'Dean of the Diplomatic Corps' due to his distinguished relationships, even with the British royal family. On the Palestinian issue, he said Israel does not seek peace, 'because it kills it.' He described the Palestinian issue as a 'case of lost opportunities,' given internal Palestinian divisions and the international community's inability to stop the war in Gaza despite multiple initiatives.

RTA Opens Key Bridge Linking Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street Towards Infinity Bridge

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a key bridge connecting Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street in the direction of the Infinity Bridge. Spanning 985 metres, the newly launched structure features two lanes and can accommodate up to 3,200 vehicles per hour. The bridge is part of Phase 4 of Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which extends 4.8 kilometres from the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to the Falcon Intersection on Al Mina Street. RTA remains committed to implementing the directives of Dubai's leadership to address the emirate's growing urban and population needs along Al Shindagha Corridor by developing projects that enhance the road network and traffic flow in the area. As such, the new bridge will ease congestion and significantly reduce travel time by 67% - from 12 minutes to 4 minutes - for motorists traveling from Jumeirah Street towards Infinity Bridge via Al Mina Street, through providing uninterrupted traffic flow across the new bridge without the need to stop at traffic signals. Phase 4 also includes five additional bridges totalling 3.1 kilometres in length, designed to accommodate 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes. The scope covers 4.8 kilometres of road enhancements, along with upgrades to key surface intersections on Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Street. Two pedestrian bridges are also planned—one on Sheikh Rashid Road and another on Al Mina Street. Another key milestone is expected in Q2 2025 with the scheduled completion of a 780-metre, three-lane bridge connecting Infinity Bridge to Al Wasl Street via Al Mina Street. Once operational, the bridge will support up to 4,800 vehicles per hour. Follow Emirates 24|7 on Google News.

Dubai opens 3-lane bridge under Al Shindagha Corridor project

A new three-lane bridge linking Dubai's Infinity Bridge via Mina Street toward Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street intersection has opened. Spanning 1,210 meters, the bridge will have a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour and help improve traffic flow, announced the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). "The new bridge will improve connectivity to key residential and commercial areas, including Al Hudaiba, Al Raffa, Al Jafiliya, Al Mankhool, Al Kifaf, and Al Karama," highlighted Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, Mattar Al Tayer. It's part of Phase 4 of Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. It spans 4.8 km along Sheikh Rashid Road, from its intersection with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to the Falcon Intersection on Al Mina Street. This phase includes the construction of five bridges totalling 3.1 km, with a combined capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes. Additionally, the project includes the development of 4.8 km of road, along with improvements to Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Street, and the construction of two pedestrian bridges - one on Sheikh Rashid Road and the other on Al Mina Street. 'RTA has completed 90 per cent of Phase 4 of the project, with the remaining two bridges set to open in the second quarter of this year," Al Tayer added. — RTA (@rta_dubai) March 23, 2025 The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project aims to improve connectivity between Deira and Bur Dubai while supporting major developments, including Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid. Spanning 13 km, it extends along Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street, involving the development of 15 intersections. Due to its scale and complexity, the project was divided into five phases. Once completed, it will benefit about one million residents, ensuring smoother traffic flow, increasing road capacity and efficiency, and significantly reducing travel time from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030. The project is also designed to enhance road safety standards while delivering an estimated AED 45 billion in economic benefits over the next 20 years.
