Dubai opens 3-lane bridge under Al Shindagha Corridor project
A new three-lane bridge linking Dubai's Infinity Bridge via Mina Street toward Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street intersection has opened.
Spanning 1,210 meters, the bridge will have a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour and help improve traffic flow, announced the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
"The new bridge will improve connectivity to key residential and commercial areas, including Al Hudaiba, Al Raffa, Al Jafiliya, Al Mankhool, Al Kifaf, and Al Karama," highlighted Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, Mattar Al Tayer.
It's part of Phase 4 of Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. It spans 4.8 km along Sheikh Rashid Road, from its intersection with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to the Falcon Intersection on Al Mina Street.
This phase includes the construction of five bridges totalling 3.1 km, with a combined capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes.
Additionally, the project includes the development of 4.8 km of road, along with improvements to Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Street, and the construction of two pedestrian bridges - one on Sheikh Rashid Road and the other on Al Mina Street.
'RTA has completed 90 per cent of Phase 4 of the project, with the remaining two bridges set to open in the second quarter of this year," Al Tayer added.

The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project aims to improve connectivity between Deira and Bur Dubai while supporting major developments, including Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.
Spanning 13 km, it extends along Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street, involving the development of 15 intersections.
Due to its scale and complexity, the project was divided into five phases.
Once completed, it will benefit about one million residents, ensuring smoother traffic flow, increasing road capacity and efficiency, and significantly reducing travel time from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030. The project is also designed to enhance road safety standards while delivering an estimated AED 45 billion in economic benefits over the next 20 years.

55 per cent of Dubai's RTA staff-use vehicles now eco-friendly
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully converted 55% of its staff-use vehicle fleet into environmentally friendly models, with 260 now operating as eco-friendly vehicles. This achievement positions RTA at the forefront of sustainable mobility and underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship and enhancing the efficiency of transport services across the emirate. These results reflect RTA's strong commitment to implementing the directives of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, which call on government entities in the Emirate to increase the share of hybrid and environmentally friendly vehicles in their fleets. As a result, RTA has surpassed the 2030 target, which was set at 30%. Commenting on the achievement, Fatima Al Mandoos, Director of Administrative Services at the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector of RTA, said: 'Through this initiative, RTA reaffirms its strategic commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing environmental sustainability, in line with the broader vision of Dubai and the UAE to transition towards a green economy. This step highlights RTA's dedication to supporting efforts to develop a sustainable transport sector and promote the adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles across public and private fleets in the Emirate, thereby contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.' Al Mandoos added: 'This transition supports RTA's efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, guided by three key pillars: public transport, RTA-owned buildings and facilities, and waste management. The Authority continues to implement a range of measures to improve transparency and efficiency in fleet management, including the upgrade of vehicle tracking systems and the adoption of advanced technologies for the maintenance and operation of hybrid vehicles.' She concluded: 'RTA has developed a long-term plan to support the transition to environmentally friendly vehicles through to 2030, contributing to improved air quality and reinforcing Dubai's vision of becoming a sustainable city. RTA also encourages its employees to adopt hybrid vehicles and actively raises awareness about the importance of minimising environmental impact; in addition to organising training sessions to educate staff on the efficient operation of hybrid vehicles and best practices for conserving energy.' Dubai Metro just got a futuristic AI robot that inspects the tracks while you sleep
Only in Dubai can you go from being served dinner by an AI-powered chef to riding a metro maintained by a robot. In a city that's fast becoming the world's capital of 'firsts,' Dubai Metro is the latest to step into the future — with a new AI-driven robot that inspects tracks and infrastructure completely on its own. Meet ARIIS (Automated Rail Infrastructure Inspection System) — the latest AI-powered addition to the city's smart transport ecosystem. Launched by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with Keolis MHI and Future Maintenance Technologies (FMT), this clever robot is packed with lasers, LiDAR sensors, and 3D cameras that work together to scan the tracks for maintenance needs — all without disrupting your daily commute. So while you're sleeping (or scrolling Instagram in the metro), ARIIS is quietly doing the rounds, helping ensure your ride is smooth, safe, and super-efficient. RTA's Rail Agency CEO, Abdul Mohsin Kalbat, says the new system marks another big step in making Dubai Metro one of the safest and most advanced transport networks in the world. 'Dubai is proud to lead in smart solutions,' he said. 'The introduction of ARIIS is a leap forward in how we maintain and future-proof our metro.' It's not just about keeping the trains on time. ARIIS also supports Dubai's wider vision to become a global leader in AI, smart mobility, and sustainable infrastructure. The robot helps engineers catch potential issues early and make data-driven decisions that reduce risk and boost performance. Keolis MHI Managing Director David Franks called the tech a 'game-changer', while FMT CEO Loic Ayoul praised the city's commitment to forward-thinking innovation: 'This collaboration delivers real improvements in rail safety, performance, and sustainability,' he said. The future of transport? It's already here—and it's riding the rails in Dubai. > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in
