Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah State Libraries attracted nearly half a million visitors in the first half of this year, with continued efforts underway to enhance digital access and community outreach. Assistant Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation cum Bengkoka Assemblyman Datuk Harun Durabi said that 474,399 people visited the state library network between January and June this year. Meanwhile, the entire library network recorded 1,342,441 visitors in 2024. 'In our effort to increase library attendance, we have implemented various programmes throughout the year,' said Harun in response to a question from Nominated Assemblyman Datuk Jaffari Waliam. Harun also said the State Library is also enhancing digital access by providing tablets to 10 library branches to support access to e-books and digital resources. This initiative is particularly aimed at rural communities. 'This includes the upcoming Library Week in August and the Children's Literature and Arts Festival in October. When asked about further digital empowerment, Harun confirmed that efforts are ongoing to strengthen digital library systems across Sabah. 'We are currently working to expand these services beyond the initial 10 branches. 'This initiative will be extended to meet growing demand across other libraries in the state,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
