BN still in talks with GRS, others on Sabah polls

KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional (BN) is in discussions with various parties about working together in the coming Sabah election, including with the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition wanted to have more allies than enemies, which was why it continued to meet other parties. "No door should be opened too wide, nor should any door be shut too tightly," he told a press conference after officiating the Sabah Women Empowerment programme today. "In other words, negotiations are ongoing, and we hope for positive outcomes. However, details cannot be finalised at this stage because the State Assembly has not yet been dissolved. "When the time comes, we will conclude all the meetings and negotiations we are currently holding," said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister. He was asked about the progress of BN's talks with other parties ahead of the Sabah election, which must be held this year. So far, BN and Pakatan Harapan have confirmed that they would work together in the polls. GRS, on the other hand, has expressed its intent to maintain cooperation with PH but said it was ready to go it alone should negotiations with other parties fall through. Tensions between Sabah BN and GRS have been running high after Sabah Umno chief, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, said they would not work with GRS in the polls. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid declined to comment on the number of seats BN was seeking to contest in the polls, though he confirmed the coalition would be using its "dacing" logo. Also present were Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
