Deendayal's ‘integral humanism' behind Modi govt's welfare measures: Nadda

The Narendra Modi government has empowered women, farmers and marginalised sections of society by taking various measures for them, while others only talked about doing so, BJP president and Union Minister J P Nadda said on Sunday. From putting the country on the path of economic progress to lifting 25 crore people above the poverty line, the government under PM Narendra Modi's leadership has launched varioius welfare schemes for all sections, drawing inspiration from Jana Sangh ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya's idea of 'integral humanism', Nadda said. The BJP chief was addressing the valedictory session of a two-day conclave to commemorate 60 years of Upadhyaya's lectures on integral humanism. 'Our traditions were not created in two days; they are a result of experiences of thousands of years,' he said, stressing the need to expound Indian economic thought. Nadda said that India as a country of 140 crore people cannot be centralised. 'We have to be a decentralised system,' he said. 'World standards cannot be the standards we have to adhere to; we have to have our Indian standards,' he said. He said this might not have seemed possible in Upadhyaya's time, but under PM Modi's leadership every parameter was being prepared around Indian standards. He said Upadhyaya at that time advocated 'swadeshi' and India could say today that self-reliance is the order of the times. 'We were even purchasing idols of Ganesh ji from China. Today, we are third in the toy industry,' Nadda said. 'We are also third in the automobile market.' He said that India had made strides in defence production too. 'We witnessed the success of Operation Sindoor and that of the BrahMos (missiles) as well. Our defence production has reached `1.3 crore,' he said. Under PM Modi, India had established an economic model aligning 'integral humanism; with 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas', he said. Recalling Upadhyaya's message that the economy was not assessed from the person on the top of the ladder but the one at its bottom, Nadda said, 'We have taken inspiration from his Antyodaya concept (uplifting the poorest).' Nadda underlined that Upadhyaya was the inspiration for the free gas cylinder scheme — PM Ujjwala Yojana — for women. He said Swachh Bharat Mission and welfare schemes for farmers launched by the PM were also inspired by Upadhyaya. He said the government has provided cooking gas connections to more than 10 crore households, constructed 12 crore toilets and built four crore pukka houses. There is a need to understand how the government under Modi's leadership has empowered women, farmers and the marginalised sections of society, and brought them into the mainstream, he said. Committed to investing additional ₹50,000 crore over next 10 years in Northeastern States: Gautam Adani

Gautam Adani on Friday (May 23, 2025) committed to investing an additional ₹50,000 crore over the next 10 years in green energy, road construction and creating digital infrastructure in the North Eastern States as his conglomerate looks to expand its presence in the east. This investment is on top of ₹50,000 crore that his group had committed to investing in Assam in February. Speaking at the Rising Northeast Investors Summit in New Delhi, the head of ports-to-energy conglomerate said his group's initiative will prioritise local jobs, local entrepreneurship and community engagement. "Three months ago, in Assam, we pledged an investment of ₹50,000 crore. Today, once again, humbled and inspired by your leadership, I announce that the Adani Group will invest an ₹50,000 crore across the Northeast over the next 10 years," he said in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The investments will span green energy, including smart-meters, hydro, pumped storage, power transmission, roads & highways, digital infrastructure, logistics, as well as capacity-building through skilling and vocational training centres. "But more than infrastructure, we will invest in people. Every initiative will prioritise local jobs, local entrepreneurship, and community engagement. This is what Viksit Bharat 2047 is all about," he said. Mr. Adani said over the past decade, in the hills and valleys of the Northeast, a new chapter in India's growth story is unfolding. "A story rooted in diversity, resilience, and untapped potential," he said. "This region is now a source of our cultural pride, economic promise, and strategic direction." 'And behind this rise is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who recognised no borders, only beginnings,' he said. 'When you said, 'Act East, Act Fast, Act First, ' you gave the Northeast its wake-up call.' This has been reflected in 65 personal visits by the Prime Minister, ₹6.2 lakh crore of investment since 2014, doubling the road network to 16,000 km and doubling the number of airports to 18. "This is not just policy. It is your hallmark of big thinking. It is the hallmark of your belief system. It is the hallmark of your conviction in Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas!," he said. To the Prime Minister, Mr. Adani said, "We will walk — in step with your vision." To the Chief Ministers of North Eastern States, he said, "We will hold hands with your people." To the Minister of Northeast, he said, "We will echo your mission." "And to our brothers and sisters of the Northeast, we at Adani will stand beside your dreams, your dignity and your destiny," he added.

‘Caste census' will trigger demand for quota in pvt sector: Akhilesh

1 2 Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said that after the " caste census " is completed, demand for reservation in private sector will be the next big thing. The former UP CM cited instances where BJP spoke against caste census in the past and went on to reiterate that the Centre's nod for the exercise was a victory of PDA (pichhde, Dalits and alpsankhyak). "Aane wale samay mein, jaati jangadna ke baad ye baat uthegi ki private sansthaon mein bhi aarakshan hona chahiye (In the days to come after the 'caste census', the demand for reservation in private sector will be raised)," Akhilesh said. "Caste census is the first step towards realising the vision of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and the Preamble of our Constitution," he said, addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Lucknow. The SP chief played a video clip of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's old interview to a news channel in which he is purportedly heard as saying: "Under Prime Minister's leadership when welfare schemes are being implemented with the spirit of 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas', some divisive people are trying to divide the society on the lines of caste, region and language. India, and particularly those following Sanatan Dharma, should be cautious of such people." "Now, who all will they (the BJP brass) caution people about," asked Akhilesh. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cost Of Amusement Park Equipment From Mexico Might Surprise You - See Tips Amusement Park Equipment | search ads Click Here Undo Akhilesh also welcomed Mahendra Rajbhar, national president of Suheldev Samman Swabhiman Party (SSSP), and recalled how the outfit joined hands with the SP in the previous polls and the results had shocked the BJP. "The SP and SSSP will work together once again in the 2027 assembly polls to ensure formation of the SP govt," Akhilesh said. The SP chief also announced that on the demand of SSSP, a grand statue of Maharaja Suheldev would be installed at Gomti Riverfront in Lucknow. "The weapon in the hand of the statue will be made of 'ashtadhatu'," he said. Maharaja Suheldev ruled Shravasti and famously defeated Ghazi Sayyid Salar Masud, the nephew of Mahmud of Ghazni, in 1034 in the Battle of Bahraich. "Once the SP govt is formed after the 2027 assembly elections, an old pension scheme will be introduced. Outsourcing of employees will be done away with in a phased manner, and everyone will be given permanent govt jobs," he said. Slamming the UP govt for "deteriorating law and order situation in the state", Akhilesh alleged that the govt was hand-in-glove with those vandalising the statues of Ambedkar in different parts of the state. "Babasaheb's statues are being desecrated across the state with the silent consent of the govt. The police are not acting. We demand strict action against those responsible for such acts of disrespect," he said.

‘Landmark step': All NDA parties back Centre

The Union government's decision to include caste-based enumeration in the upcoming decadal census has come as a shot in the arm for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), particularly for parties gearing for an electoral battle in Bihar later this year. Allies of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA, such as the Janata Dal (United), the Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas), the Apna Dal and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) hailed the decision, and said the data on castes will pave the way for more equitable policies. The BJP said the announcement has punctured the Opposition's charge that government was anti-reservation, although its allies chose to define the move as a measure to identify those who have not benefitted from caste-based quotas. Sanjay Jha, the JD(U)'s working president recalled that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar first met Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a delegation of leaders from 11 parties in 2021 to make a case for a caste census. 'The unavailability of caste-wise data was becoming a big obstacle in the way of accurately identifying the socially deprived sections and making more effective plans for them. In view of the demand being made by various political parties and social groups, the UPA government decided to conduct a survey of castes in the 2011 census, but, there were so many discrepancies in those data that it was not even made public,' Jha said. The 2023 Bihar caste survey --- which was done by the then ruling coalition of JD(U), Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress -- revealed that other backward classes (OBCs) made up nearly 63% of the state's population. The Rashtriya Lok Samata Party and the Lok Janshakti Party, which are also part of the NDA and will jointly contest the Bihar polls, welcomed the move. Union minister and LJP (RV) chief Chirag Paswan said the caste survey was a key demand of his party. 'In the last few years, many misconceptions were spread regarding the caste census. Today's decision is a clear answer to all these step of the central government will bring a big change in the direction of inclusive development of the country.' he said on X. Upendra Kushwaha of the RLSP said the decision ṣ'will prove to be a milestone in the direction of development of the oppressed and exploited society of the country.' Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, who had earlier pushed for a skill census instead of a caste enumeration, said the decision reflected Modi's deep commitment to inclusive governance. '...This landmark step will enable more precise, data-driven policies that address the needs of the marginalised communities in our country. Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas [inclusive development for all] continues to evolve from principle to practice, strengthening the foundations of social justice in India.' Union minister and Apna Dal leader Anupriya Patel said, 'Today, the misconceptions spread about caste census in the last few years have come to an end. This work was last done in the country in 1931. After 1947, the UPA government also got the opportunity but they did not take any concrete steps in this direction. But there is no difference between the words and actions of the Modi government.' The Nationalist Congress Party said the caste census will help provide more funds for marginalised sections. 'This will help in raising the educational and economic level of backward sections of society and the goal of establishing social equality can be achieved more quickly,' Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said. The Shiv Sena also welcomed the move. 'The Congress, which has been making empty promises of saving the Constitution, is now in a state of unbearable and unspeakable. This party, which has been openly demanding a caste-wise census, has not bothered to take this decision during its rule,' said Maharashtra deputy CM Eknath Shinde. Union minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy said the step will ensure that India has authentic, scientific, and transparent caste data. 'With this bold move, PM Modi has reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance and data-driven policymaking. This will empower welfare planning, strengthen social justice, and shape a more equitable future for all,' he said on X.
