Deendayal's ‘integral humanism' behind Modi govt's welfare measures: Nadda
The Narendra Modi government has empowered women, farmers and marginalised sections of society by taking various measures for them, while others only talked about doing so, BJP president and Union Minister J P Nadda said on Sunday.
From putting the country on the path of economic progress to lifting 25 crore people above the poverty line, the government under PM Narendra Modi's leadership has launched varioius welfare schemes for all sections, drawing inspiration from Jana Sangh ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya's idea of 'integral humanism', Nadda said.
The BJP chief was addressing the valedictory session of a two-day conclave to commemorate 60 years of Upadhyaya's lectures on integral humanism.
'Our traditions were not created in two days; they are a result of experiences of thousands of years,' he said, stressing the need to expound Indian economic thought.
Nadda said that India as a country of 140 crore people cannot be centralised. 'We have to be a decentralised system,' he said.
'World standards cannot be the standards we have to adhere to; we have to have our Indian standards,' he said. He said this might not have seemed possible in Upadhyaya's time, but under PM Modi's leadership every parameter was being prepared around Indian standards.
He said Upadhyaya at that time advocated 'swadeshi' and India could say today that self-reliance is the order of the times. 'We were even purchasing idols of Ganesh ji from China. Today, we are third in the toy industry,' Nadda said. 'We are also third in the automobile market.'
He said that India had made strides in defence production too. 'We witnessed the success of Operation Sindoor and that of the BrahMos (missiles) as well. Our defence production has reached `1.3 crore,' he said.
Under PM Modi, India had established an economic model aligning 'integral humanism; with 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas', he said. Recalling Upadhyaya's message that the economy was not assessed from the person on the top of the ladder but the one at its bottom, Nadda said, 'We have taken inspiration from his Antyodaya concept (uplifting the poorest).'
Nadda underlined that Upadhyaya was the inspiration for the free gas cylinder scheme — PM Ujjwala Yojana — for women. He said Swachh Bharat Mission and welfare schemes for farmers launched by the PM were also inspired by Upadhyaya.
He said the government has provided cooking gas connections to more than 10 crore households, constructed 12 crore toilets and built four crore pukka houses. There is a need to understand how the government under Modi's leadership has empowered women, farmers and the marginalised sections of society, and brought them into the mainstream, he said.

Raj govt employee arrested for espionage, links to Pakistan embassy staff and ISI
The intelligence department of Rajasthan Police on Tuesday arrested a Jaisalmer-based state government employee on charges of espionage after they found him to have links with two Pakistan embassy staff and the Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), officials said. 'Shakur Khan, who had been working as an assistant administrative officer at the Jaisalmer employment office since 2013, was detained by the department on May 28 for questioning after police found his movement suspicious,' Vishnu Kant, inspector general (IG) of the security department, said. Khan had earlier served as a personal assistant of former Congress minister Saleh Mohammed from 2008-2013, who was then a sitting MLA from Pokhran, the officials said. 'He was on our radar for a long time. He visited Pakistan seven times in the last few years. During questioning, we found out that he was in regular touch with two Pakistan embassy staff — Ehsaan-Ur-Rehman alias Danish and Sohail Qamar. Danish was an official in the Pakistan embassy in India but was identified as a suspicious entity and sent back to Pakistan by the Indian government a few years ago,' the IG said. Kant further said, 'Khan had visited Pakistan several times for which Danish helped him getting the visa. Danish and Sohail also got him in touch with ISI agents. Khan had been sending them confidential military information through WhatsApp.' 'This is a serious security breach, as his position would have given him access to a lot of sensitive information. Khan's activities are in violation of the Official Secrets Act 1923. A case has been registered against him under this Act and he has been arrested,' the officer said. Meanwhile, Khan's background of serving as a personal assistant of a former Congress minister sparked a political controversy in the state, with the Rajasthan parliamentary affairs minister Jogaram Patel saying, 'Saleh Mohammed should comment on it, and the police should also question him.' The development comes a week after the Delhi police and intelligence agencies arrested Hasim Mev, a cousin of a man named Kasim Mev from Deeg district of Rajasthan, in connection with another case of espionage.

‘Anti-India in spirit': BJP on Bhagwant Mann's ‘one nation one husband' remark over Operation Sindoor
Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann's recent remark mocking Operation Sindoor sparked a political controversy in the country and led to severe criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accused him of insulting the Indian Armed Forces. At the centre of the controversy is Bhagwant Mann's bizarre quip during a press conference, where he referred to reports that the BJP would distribute Sindoor in households, saying, "Will you wear sindoor in Modi's name?" Is this "One Nation, One Husband" scheme? The phrase 'One Nation, One Husband' instantly ignited outrage online and in political circles. BJP Punjab spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal shared the video of CM Mann's comments on X and said, "Bhagwant Mann crosses all limits! Mocking Operation Sindoor, he shamelessly asks: "Will you wear sindoor in Modi's name? Is this One Nation, One Husband?" Baliawal clarified that Operation Sindoor was a response to terrorists killing Hindus after checking their religion, with sindoor being a marker used to identify women. He also accused Mann of having "zero sensitivity" and criticised him for mocking the Indian Army, insulting Veer Naris, and turning sacred symbols into jokes. The BJP Punjab spokesperson also called for Bhagwant Mann's immediate resignation. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also echoed the sentiment, calling Mann's remarks 'anti-India in spirit.' "Shameful! Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann ridicules Operation Sindoor. Once again, the opposition shows its true face -- Disrespecting our armed forces and belittling a successful military operation. If this isn't anti-India in spirit, then what is? Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor was India's bold military retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack carried out by Pakistan-backed terrorists, which led to the brutal killing of 26 innocent people. Under the operation, Indian forces targeted nine terror camps and infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 militants linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. After India's strike on terror infrastructure, Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), as well as attempted drone attacks targeting civilian areas along the border regions. After an intense exchange of fire, a ceasefire understanding was announced on May 10 following Pakistan's request for a dialogue. (with PTI inputs)
