Bipartisan support ensured that this understanding that culminated in the nuclear deal – signalling India's arrival as a global player just when China's coercive actions were creating ripples in the West – stayed its course. There have been minor blips like the standoff over the strip search of an Indian diplomat in 2013 and the recent spat over a murder-for-hire plot involving Indian government agents but the overall trajectory of the relationship remained unaffected.
