Local Sam's Club scammer arrested, faces theft charges
( — A man is now in custody after being arrested earlier this week for stealing over $25,000 worth of goods from Sam's Club. The Sacramento Sheriff's Department arrested 38-year-old Inam Rasool after executing a search warrant at his home Wednesday, where they found hundreds of stolen items. 'Found over $25,000 worth of items from Sam's Club,' said Amar Gandhi, Sacramento Sheriff's Public Information Officer. 'We're talking about everything from deodorant to over-the-counter medication to prepackaged foods, you name it.' Rasool's scam came to light in February, when he attempted to leave a Sacramento Sam's club with over $1,000 in unpaid merchandise mixed in with paid items. 'They didn't really escalate it to a criminal complaint. He went back, paid for the items, and everything was kind of a wash there,' said Gandhi. 'From there, they noticed this pattern that he was using reward points that were sometimes from other customers, purchasing really just a lot of product over this period of time.' Sam's Club uncovered that Rasool was hacking store accounts, stealing customer information, and using shoppers' reward dollars. That prompted the Sacramento Sheriff's Office to search his home on May 14th. Gandhi tells FOX40 that Rasool fraudulently purchased the merchandise, then sold the stolen items online, 'Kind of a one man operation.' 'Everything was stored in the garage, he was printing all these labels at home. The computer, label maker, and printer. So everything was done right there,' said Gandhi. Rasool was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of grand theft, with bail set at $250,000. Investigators believe Rasool may have scammed other local businesses, they urge any affected companies to contact the Sheriff's Property Crimes Bureau. 'It started at that receipt checker. So it might seem like an annoyance to you when you're shopping at these stores. But again, these thieves are out there. They're hiding in plain sight,' Gandhi said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
