Nawazuddin Siddiqui backs stars dancing at weddings, says actors are no different from jesters

Agencies The 'Sacred Games' star recently supported actors who danced at weddings for pay. Renowned actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently offered a refreshingly frank perspective on the way actors are viewed by society, especially in the context of performing at private events. In an interview on the All About Eve YouTube channel, the Sacred Games star made it clear that he holds no issue with actors dancing at weddings or exclusive parties in exchange for large payments. In fact, he openly admitted that he would gladly accept such an offer if it came his way. When the interviewer asked if he would be comfortable dancing at a wedding for a fee, Nawaz responded with complete sincerity: 'Absolutely, why wouldn't I? What's the big deal? It's a part of what we do for a living. People often criticize actors for dancing at weddings, but I don't see the harm. At the end of the day, we are performers — entertainers. Historically, entertainers or 'bhands' were looked down upon. They weren't accepted in mainstream social circles. In those days, they were seen as immoral or lacking principles, as bad influences. Villages would make them stay outside in tents. They were only allowed in to perform and then immediately sent away.' He then reflected on how the entertainment industry has transformed over time. Nawazuddin acknowledged that today's actors wear designer clothes and earn much more than earlier generations of performers. Still, despite the newfound glamor and financial success, he pointed out that the essence of the profession remains the same. He admitted that actors no longer like being called 'bh**nds,' but that term once defined their place in society, even though the work itself hasn't changed all that after the interview clip was posted on Reddit, it sparked a wave of online reactions. Social media users quickly joined the conversation, expressing a range of opinions. One person wrote, 'They view themselves as entertainers, and that's perfectly valid. I don't get why people make such a fuss about it — to each their own.' Another added, 'He makes a fair point. People in the past had a very limited and judgmental view of things.' One commenter, however, playfully questioned his reach, saying, 'No shade to Nawaz, bro, but I doubt he'd actually be invited to perform at elite weddings, let alone get paid that kind of money. So no, you're not a 'bh**nd' and probably won't become one either, lol.'On the professional front, Nawazuddin was last seen in Costao, a biographical crime thriller. He portrayed Coatao Fernandes, a brave customs officer from Goa who risked his life to bust a gold smuggling racket. Directed by Sejal Shah, the film also stars Priya Bapat, Kishore, and Hussain Dalal, and is currently available for streaming on ZEE5.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui calls actors 'bhands', says fine with dancing at weddings

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently shared his honest opinion about actors and how society sees them. In a recent interview, the 'Sacred Games' actor said he doesn't see anything wrong with actors dancing at weddings or private events for big money. In fact, he said he would do the same if he got the asked if he would dance at a wedding if given the chance on All About Eve YouTube channel, he replied, 'Yes, why not? What's wrong with it? It's a part of our profession; people complain that actors dance at weddings, but what's the problem? At the end of the day, we are all 'bhands' (entertainers). Did you know that in the past, 'bhands' wouldn't be allowed to mingle in polite society? They were seen as unfit; they were seen as people who didn't have any ideologies or beliefs, bad influences. They were kept in tents outside villages. They would only be allowed to enter to perform, and then they'd be sent right back out.'advertisementOther Bollywood stars like Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar have also spoken about this. On the show, 'Koffee with Karan', Akshay joked that Ranveer keeps dancing at weddings so much that even the bride and groom have to wait for him to stop. Ranveer said he learned this from Akshay, who once told him, 'Shaadi hai, main naach raha hoon; birthday hai, main naach raha hoon; mundan hai, bachcha ro raha hai, main naach raha Hoon (It's a wedding, I'm dancing; it's a birthday, I'm dancing; it's a munda ceremony, the child is crying, I'm dancing).' On the work front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was last seen in the biographical crime drama 'Costao'. He plays the role of Coatao Fernandes, A Goa-based customs officer who risked everything to dismantle a gold smuggling ring. Directed by Sejal Shah, the film is currently streaming on ZEE5 and also features Priya Bapat, Kishore and Hussain Watch

'Can't Blame Salman Khan': Nawazuddin Siddiqui On Why Sikandar Didn't Work At Box Office

Nawazuddin Siddiqui said that once a superstar like Salman Khan agrees to star in a film, the makers have an even greater responsibility to deliver a well-crafted film. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has worked with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in films such as Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan. In a recent interview, Nawazuddin was asked about why he thinks Salman's latest release 'Sikandar' didn't perform well at the box office. In response, the 'Sacred Games' actor said that filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and Salman cannot solely be blamed if a film doesn't work. He argued that Salman's star power alone can make even an average film a huge hit, but then the makers must ensure that the film has substance. He said that once a superstar like Salman agrees to star in a film, the makers have an even greater responsibility to work harder and deliver a well-crafted film. While speaking with Lallantop Cinema, Nawazuddin Siddiqui said that Sikandar is just one of the few Salman Khan films that didn't perform as expected, noting that the majority of Salman's movies turn out to be massive blockbusters. 'He has done many films that don't necessarily have much essence, but just because they starred Salman Khan, those films became big hits," said Nawazuddin. He further added that he hasn't watched Sikandar, so he is not sure what didn't work in the film. However, he highlighted that the best thing about having a superstar like Salman on board, is the fact that he can turn even a normal film into a massive hit, just with his presence. He further added, 'If Bhai agrees and says 'Okay I will do the film,' then the responsibility of the director increases even further. Because he is handing you his fan base on a plate. You have a huge responsibility." He further said that people shouldn't just point fingers at Salman Khan. 'The makers need to do their part. If you have got Salman Khan, then it becomes your job to put essence and all the other elements into the film. He's such a personality – a superstar of our times – whose specialty is that he can turn even a simple film into something huge just through his presence. He is giving you everything – his fan following, the madness, the celebration that comes with him, because people come to see him. But if the directors or makers don't do the work on the script, then we can't just blame the superstar," he added. He said that is why making a film is a collaborative effort, and is made together, with everyone's efforts. Helmed by A.R Murugadoss, Sikandar stars Salman Khan, Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, Sharman Joshi, Prateik Babbar, and others. The film, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, released in theatres on March 30, 2025. First Published: May 03, 2025, 17:13 IST
