Christina Applegate: 'I miss who I was before I got sick'
Christina Applegate was devastated when her daughter told her she misses 'who you were before you got sick'. The 53-year-old actress – who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021 - admitted it was 'like a knife to the heart' when her 14-year-old daughter Sadie shared how difficult she finds it coping with her mother's illness. Speaking on the Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, Christina said: "I don't get up in the morning with that, I get up because of her. She's the reason I'm still here and trying." "But she did say to me, and we got into a big thing the other day, and sorry Sadie, but it has to be said. She said, 'I missed who you were before you got sick'. That is just like a knife to the heart because I miss who I was before I got sick too. Very much." Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the brain and central nervous system. Last year, Christina – who has been married to Sadie's dad Martyn LeNoble since 2013 – admitted she was really struggling to come to terms with her illness. She told the Messy podcast: 'It's kind of scaring me too a little bit because it feels really fatalistic, it feels really 'end of'. I don't mean that, but I'm trapped in this darkness right now that I haven't felt in probably 20-something years. I don't enjoy living. I don't enjoy it. I don't enjoy things anymore.' She later added: 'I'm good. Does that take a little bit of the pressure off of all of you? I'm good. Let's address it. We are going to address it. It's a moment. It's a thought. It's a feeling. I was talking about some dark stuff I was thinking and feeling. 'I think it's important to be able to say these things,' she continued. 'I dare anyone to be diagnosed with MS or any kind of chronic illness that has taken who you were prior to that moment and go, this is great. You know? No. 'You have moments of feeling like this is tiring and I don't wanna do this. But you do it, and by having friends like you and my beautiful friends that I have, by saying this out loud, it releases the pressure in the balloon, man.'

Christina Applegate reveals daughter's 'knife to the heart comment' about MS battle
Married... With Children star Christina Applegate revealed the hurtful words her daughter, Sadie, said to her as she shared the realities of parenting with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Christina Applegate revealed her daughter is the reason she's 'still here and trying' after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) - a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. The actress, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2021, has been open about living with MS and recently shared the realities of parenting with it. The 53-year-old Dead To Me actress recently appeared on SiriusXM's Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast and discussed her changing relationship with 14-year-old daughter Sadie, who is the reason she's 'still here and trying. The star said: "I don't get up in the morning with that, I get up because of her. She's the reason I'm still here and trying." Christina then revealed the painful comment her daughter made when they got into an argument. The actress added: " But she did say to me, and we got into a big thing the other day, and sorry Sadie, but it has to be said. "She said, 'I missed who you were before you got sick'. That is just like a knife to the heart because I miss who I was before I got sick too." "Very much so. Every day of my life is such a loss. See, now I'm gonna cry. See, this is my problem. I'm either like extremely traumatic and crying, or I'm cracking myself up. So I'm never in between." Christina shares Sadie with her husband, Martyn LeNoble, whom she married in 2013. The Married... With Children star previously appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, where she admitted that her sense of humour helps her keep going. Jimmy said: "I learned from our text exchanges you have a very sick sense of humour," to which Christina replied: "It's how I live. It's how I keep myself okay." The show host added: "'I like it. I think that's good. I think that's the way to go for sure." She admitted she feels like her daughter is "losing her mum" as she knew her, and reminisced about their past together when they could dance, do library work together, and be more active including picking her up from school. The star admitted "it breaks me" as she explained she can no longer do the same things she once did effortlessly. She became emotional during the interview and said: "I'm sorry. I freak out about it every day." Christina said there were times she would be lying in bed due to her pain. "[My daughter will] come in the room, and if she sees that I'm laying on my side, she knows that she can't ask me to do anything," she said. "And that breaks me, breaks me. Because I love doing stuff for my kid. I love making her food. I love bringing it to her. I love all of it, and I just can't sometimes. But I try. I try." Last year, Christina revealed her daughter was diagnosed Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, a condition that causes abnormally large increases in heart rate upon sitting up or standing.

MS stricken Christina Applegate reveals teen daughter's comment that drove her to tears: 'knife to the heart'
Christina Applegate, who is battling multiple sclerosis, has revealed a heartbreaking comment her 14-year-old daughter Sadie made about her condition. The 53-year-old actress was diagnosed with the degenerative illness in 2021 after suffering what she described as 'six or seven years of symptoms.' Now she has shared she and Sadie 'got into a big thing the other day, and - sorry Sadie, but it has to be said - she says: "I miss you who were before you got sick."' She made the disclosure while discussing her health problems during an appearance on Kelly Ripa 's podcast Let's Talk Off-Camera. 'And that just like - it's like knife to heart because I miss who I was before I got sick too, very much so. Everyday of my life, it's such a loss,' Christina confessed. The Married... with Children star said that she gets 'up in the morning' for Sadie's sake, adding: 'She's the reason I'm still here and trying.' She has been candid about her health struggles on her podcast MeSsy, which she co-hosts with The Sopranos actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who has the same condition. Jamie-Lynn and Christina were making a joint appearance on Kelly Ripa's podcast when the subject of Sadie's shattering comment arose. Christina revealed last year that Sadie was diagnosed with a neurological condition called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). POTS causes the patient's heart rate to quicken when sitting or standing up, in a phenomenon heightened by hot weather. 'When I stand up, I get really, really dizzy and my legs get really weak, and I feel like I'm going to pass out,' Sadie explained on her mother's podcast. Christina shares her daughter with her second and current husband Martyn LeNoble, the Dutch bassist for the rock band Porno For Pyros. She announced last year that she is writing a memoir, and it has since emerged the book is scheduled for publication by Little, Brown and Company next March. Before she developed multiple sclerosis, Christina's health problems included a 2008 diagnosis with breast cancer, for which she underwent a double mastectomy, and a struggle with anorexia during the early years of her stardom. Last year, amid her harrowing experience with multiple sclerosis, Christina revealed the 'things I want to do with the days I have left in life.' Writing on X, formerly Twitter, she shared: 'I want to work with Shirley MacLaine And do shots with Cher! And yes my days are so big. Just saying.' Christina at one point raised concerns among her fans by remarking on her podcast: 'I don't enjoy living. I don't enjoy it. I don't enjoy things anymore.' As her fans expressed their fears for her on social media, she issued a clarification saying that she finds it 'healing' to be frank about her emotional turmoil. She acknowledged that she harbors 'dark thoughts' but argued: ''By making such a big deal about it you're making other people think: "Oh, s***, I can't talk about this." And that is not okay with me. I think it's important to be able to say these things.'
