National Human Rights Institution holds specialised awareness workshop at Ajman Police Officers' Club
Abu Dhabi, UAE: In collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) organised a specialised awareness workshop at the Ajman Police Officers' Club, targeting directors of police stations, prisons, and the investigations department. The workshop forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance institutional coordination with law enforcement agencies. The NHRI delegation was led by H.E. Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, Secretary-General, and the session was delivered by Abdulazeez Al Obathani, Head of International and Regional Organisations Section, and Fatima Al Hosani, Head of the Awareness and Education Section, with the presence and participation of Ms. Klaithem Al Kaabi from the Media Center. This initiative is part of a broader series of engagements and awareness workshops conducted by the NHRI in cooperation with various government entities, with the aim of strengthening the culture of human rights at the national level. About the National Human Rights Institution: The National Human Rights Institution was established under Federal Law No. (12) of 2021 as an independent entity with financial and administrative autonomy in carrying out its functions, activities, and mandates. The NHRI aims to promote and protect human rights and freedoms in accordance with the provisions of the UAE Constitution, applicable laws and legislations, as well as relevant international conventions, treaties, and agreements.

The National Human Rights Institution receives high-level delegation from European Parliament
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates: The National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) received a high-level delegation from the European Parliament at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, where both parties explored opportunities for joint cooperation to adopt the highest standards in the field of human rights. The delegation was welcomed by His Excellency Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the NHRI, and His Excellency Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, Secretary-General of the NHRI. The visitors were briefed on the Institution's latest developments and its plans to strengthen collaboration and engagement with international human rights organizations. Commenting on the visit, H.E. Kruse noted that this marks the third visit by the European Parliament—and the second this year—which affirms the Parliament's interest in the NHRI's efforts to promote and protect human rights, as well as its commitment to enhancing cooperation with the international community. The delegation was led by H.E. David McAllister, Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, and was accompanied by H.E. Lucía Berger, EU Ambassador to the UAE, along with a number of senior officials and representatives from several European Parliament member countries. UAE team visits labour facility to check accommodation standards
A delegation from the UAE's National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) has carried out an inspection of a labour accommodation in Dubai Industrial City as part of a campaign to ensure living conditions for workers meet health and safety standards. The team held individual meetings with a number of workers to ensure they have assess to good living conditions. Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, Secretary-General of the NHRI was accompanied by a number of specialised technical and human rights experts from the institution during the inspection. Chairperson of NHRI, Maqsoud Kruse, said the visit is an effort to ensure the rights of workers are protected through continuous monitoring of working and living conditions. The NHRI launched its first field visit in February this year under a UAE Federal Law, which grants the authority the right to "conduct field visits to correctional and rehabilitation institutions, detention centres, labour facilities, healthcare and educational institutions, and shelters to monitor human rights conditions". The visits aim to raise awareness and ensure compliance with national and international human rights laws and standards.
