(AP Photo/Phelan M. Ebenhack, File) The apple hasn't fallen far from the tree. At just 15 years old, Charlie Woods has begun to carve out his own place in the golf world. The son of Tiger Woods claimed his first major win at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in Florida, announcing his arrival not just as a Woods, but as a serious competitor in junior golf. Charlie finished the tournament at 15-under par. Over three days at Streamsong Resort's Black Course, he played with steady confidence ,opening with a two-under 70, then firing a 7-under 65 on day two. On the final day, Charlie sealed his victory with a 6-under 66, winning by three strokes over a field packed with the world's best amateurs, including Miles Russell, Luke Colton, and Tyler Watts. 'I didn't look at the leaderboard once today,' Charlie said, speaking to ClutchPoints after the win. 'On the fairway after hitting the green on 18, he's [my caddie] like, 'you make par here, you're going to be fine.' I guess that helped me out a little bit.' This victory vaulted Charlie from #604 to #14 in the world amateur rankings, and it wasn't just any field he beat ,he finished ahead of four of the top five-ranked amateurs in the world. Charlie's path hasn't always been smooth. Earlier this year, he placed 25th at the Sage Valley Junior Invitational and failed to qualify for the U.S. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! His swing, his reading of the greens, and his calm under pressure all suggest a young player who belongs at the top. Charlie is no longer simply Tiger Woods' son, he is making his own mark. Next up for Charlie is the US Junior Amateur, to be held at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas, from July 21-26. A tournament his father famously won three years running in the early 1990s. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Tiger Woods, a legend in the golf world, recently tore his left Achilles, prompting surgery. He therefore missed the Masters and is expected to miss the rest of the 2025 season. While the three-time U.S. Open winner steps away from competition, his teenage son, Charlie Woods, has been battling to earn a spot in the prestigious major. Unfortunately, for the second consecutive year, Woods did not advance beyond the first stage of U.S. Open qualilfying. The 16-year-old recently competed in a U.S. Open local qualifier at Wellington National Golf Club, a championship course designed by Johnny Miller. He carded a 3-over 75, marking a significant improvement from his previous attempt last year. Back in 2024, it was Charlie's first attempt, and he posted a 9-over 81 at the Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie. His performance, however, showed promise compared to his previous outing at the Sage Valley Junior Invitational, where he finished 20 shots behind the eventual winner. At Sage Valley, Charlie was also joined by Kai Trump, granddaughter of former U.S. President Donald Trump and daughter of Vanessa, who is currently dating Tiger Woods. The standout performer of the 125th U.S. Open qualifier round was Arth Sinha, who carded a 6-under 66. His next stage? On June 2nd, Sinha will be competing in the one-day, 36-hole final qualifier taking place at Emerald Dunes in West Palm Beach. He will also be joined by the four other top finishers, namely Matthew Marigliano (-5), Tyler Stachkunas (-4), Carson Kiawonn (-4), and Michael Gligic of Canada. As for Charlie, his next competitive appearance is expected at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, scheduled for May 25-28. Interestingly, Woods Jr. wasn't the only high-profile athlete attempting to qualify for the 125th U.S. Open. Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo, ex-tennis star Mardy Fish, and New York Rangers winger J.T. Miller were also among those vying for a spot at Oakmont Country Club, where the tournament will take place from June 12-15. More Golf: John Daly Out of PGA Championship, Offers Grim Reaper Update

Trump vs. Kai: President doubts granddaughter can beat him at golf anytime soon

Donald Trump says his 17-year-old granddaughter Kai Trump has a bright future in golf, but he's not ready to hand over the crown just yet. In a recent YouTube vlog by Kai, the two were seen attending a UFC event in Miami alongside her brothers, Donny (16) and Spencer (12). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The vlog captured a quick moment between the former president and his granddaughter. The vlog included a lighthearted moment between Kai and Trump, where they chatted about her golf journey. 'I play a lot of golf with Kai, and she's a fantastic golfer,' Trump said. 'She's a scratch player, which is amazing. I think someday she's going to be much better than scratch.' Still, Trump couldn't resist adding: 'She wins a lot of matches. And someday she'll be able to beat her grandfather, but I'm not sure when that'll be. It might be a long time!' Trump was seen laughing as Kai jokingly challenged him to a one-on-one showdown, showing their playful rivalry on the course. 'There would only be one winner,' he said with a grin. Kai, who has committed to play collegiate golf at the University of Miami , is considered one of the top young prospects in the sport. She recently signed a major endorsement deal with TaylorMade Golf, joining the ranks of and Rory McIlroy. In January, she also signed her first NIL deal with Leaf Trading Cards. She currently holds the No. 1 ranking in high school girls' golf and is ranked No. 81 in the On3 NIL 100, with an estimated NIL valuation of $1.2 million, the highest among high school female golfers. Despite her rising status, Kai hit a rough patch last month at the Sage Valley Junior Invitational, where she collapsed on the back nine and finished 52-over par for the tournament, last in the 24-player girls' field. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Her rounds of 79, 89, and 83 put her well behind the competition, but her ranking still improved from 815th to 530th by the end of March. The vlog also showed Kai mingling with Haley and Hanna Cavinder, stars from the Miami Hurricanes basketball team. In a light moment, Kai brought up Hanna's breakup with quarterback Carson Beck, asking, 'Does he have friends?' Hanna replied, 'No, nobody likes him.' Even with ups and downs on the course, Kai Trump's golf future and media presence seems to be on the rise. And according to her grandfather, the competitive edge between them isn't going anywhere just yet.

Donald Trump reveals who would win in golf clash with granddaughter Kai, 17

Donald Trump insists granddaughter Kai is a 'fantastic' golfer with a bright future in the sport - despite claiming she isn't on his level just yet. Kai, 17, is set to play collegiate golf at the University of Miami after committing to the school last year and has ambitions to turn pro one day. Her grandfather - who owns 18 courses across the globe, including 11 in the US - also has a huge passion for golf and frequently enjoys a round at one of his various clubs in Florida. In her latest YouTube vlog, Kai documented their trip to watch a UFC show in Miami together earlier this month, where they were also joined by her brothers Donny, 16, and Spencer, 12. And one moment in the vlog shows the aspiring golfer enjoying a quick chat with her granddad about her progression in the sport. 'I just wanna say that I play a lot of golf with Kai and she's a fantastic golfer,' Trump tells the camera. 'She's a scratch player, which is amazing. I think some day in the not-too-distant future she's gonna be much better than scratch.' However, the president stressed that there would only be one winner if they battled it out on the course. 'She's doing really well and she wins a lot of matches,' he added. 'And some day she'll be able to beat her grandfather, but I'm not sure when that'll be... it might be a long time!' Trump could then be seen laughing as his granddaughter jokingly challenged him to a one-on-one showdown. Kai's golfing career was dealt a major setback last month when she suffered a meltdown at the Sage Valley Junior Invitational. Donald Trump Jr's daughter was among the field of rising stars competing at the elite junior golf competition, yet as spectators in MAGA caps and secret service traipsed after her, she dropped a staggering 12 shots over seven holes alone on the back nine seeing her slump to 52-over for the tournament - almost double the score of her closest competitor. Kai finished with rounds of 79, 89, and 83, leaving her 22 shots behind the bottom of the leaderboard. She finished dead last in the 24-player girls' field. Nonetheless, she still saw her ranking move from 815th to 530th on the girls' rankings at the end of March. In the rest of her UFC vlog, Kai could be seen chatting with Miami Hurricanes basketball duo Haley and Hanna Cavinder. She even got onto the topic of Hanna's ugly breakup with football quarterback Carson Beck, who was accused of cheating on her before their split. 'Does he have friends?' Kai Trump asked the Cavinder Twins about Beck. 'No, nobody likes him,' Hanna said of her ex-boyfriend.

Who ranks higher in junior golf: Kai Trump or Charlie Woods? Here's what we know

Who ranks higher in junior golf: Kai Trump or Charlie Woods? Here's what we know President Trump's eldest granddaughter and Donald Trump Jr.'s eldest daughter, Kai Trump, is a Florida high school golfer. And she shares the golf course with another young Florida golfer, whose dad is a legend in the sport. Kai Trump and Tiger Woods' son, Charlie Woods, have held the attention of golf and pop culture enthusiasts for a couple of weeks now. They both attend the same elite Palm Beach County School, frequently play in the same tournaments and now, their parents are publicly dating. If you didn't know, Vanessa Trump, Kai's mom and Donald Trump Jr.'s ex-wife, and Tiger Woods confirmed dating rumors and made their relationship 'Instagram official' this March. Both Kai and Charlie recently rose in junior golf rankings, after playing in one of the most prestigious events in junior golf last week. Here's where they rank and what we know about their budding golf careers. Where does Charlie Woods rank in junior golf? Charlie Woods and Kai Trump are both reaping the benefits of competing in one of the most prestigious events in junior golf. Their latest rankings in the American Junior Golf Association: Woods and Trump each jumped up more than 200 places in AJGA rankings after competing at the Sage Valley Junior Invitational in South Carolina last week. On the week of March 25, Woods was ranked No. 603 in the AJGA boys rankings, 235 places higher than he was before Sage Valley. He finished the event at Sage Valley tied for 25th in a field of 36 golfers. Where does Kai Trump rank? Their rankings jumped up so high after just one event due to how the event is weighted by the AJGA. The Sage Valley Junior Invitational isn't an AJGA event, but it is a maximum point value tournament in the AJGA rankings formula, due to the strength and breadth of the field. This year's Junior Invitational at Sage Valley included competition from players from at least 19 countries. Trump rose to No. 530 in the AJGA girls rankings for the week of March 25, 285 places higher than she was before Sage Valley. She finished last in a field of 24 golfers at Sage Valley. Trump was an All-County selection for Benjamin last fall and finished her junior campaign as the No. 151 ranked girls golfer in Florida, according to iWanamaker. Woods played on Benjamin's No. 2 line last fall and finished his sophomore varsity campaign as the No. 11 boys golfer in Florida, according to iWanamaker, an online event management system that includes player rosters, live scoring, and rankings for high school golf. Sage Valley Junior Invitational: Charlie Woods, Kai Trump make huge jump in golf rankings Where do Charlie Woods, Kai Trump go to school? Kai Trump, Charlie Woods and his sister Sam Alexis Woods, all play sports and attend school at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens. Charlie Woods even helped The Benjamin School Buccaneers varsity golf team win a state title when he was a freshman. In news interviews, Sam Woods has mentioned avoiding a professional career in golf because as a child, the tournaments meant long absences away from her father. Her choice of sport has been soccer and she plays on The Benjamin School's girls' soccer team. The Benjamin School's elementary and middle school campus is in North Palm Beach on Ellison Wilson Road, appropriately located near Golfview Road and wedged between two golf courses. The Benjamin School's high school campus, where Kai, Sam and Charlie attend school, is in Palm Beach Gardens, on Grandiflora Road, not far from Abacoa Golf Club. According to the school's website, one year of tuition for ninth through 12th grade was $37,200 for the 2024-25 school year. Famous golfers, other than Tiger Woods, have also sent their children to The Benjamin School, including Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman. Where is Kai Trump going to college? Kai Trump took to Instagram on Sunday, August 18, 2024, to announce her commitment to the University of Miami's women's golf team. 'I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Miami,' Kai wrote in the caption. 'I would like to thank my mom, Vanessa, and my dad, Don, for always supporting me through my journey. I would also like to thank my great team for getting me to this point.' She went on to thank her grandfather, President Donald Trump, as well. 'I would like to thank my grandpa for giving me access to great courses and tremendous support… I am super excited to be a cane and represent the University of Miami. Gooo Canes!' NIL deals: Do Kai Trump and Charlie Woods have NIL deals for golf? Here's what that means Has Charlie Woods ever hit a hole-in-one? Yes! In December 2024, a then-15-year-old Charlie Woods hit a hole-in-one at the PNC Championship, and his father was there to see it. Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods sometimes play golf tournaments together. Does Kai Trump have an NIL deal? In February, Kai announced her first lucrative endorsement deal with big-name golf equipment company TaylorMade. On3, a website that rates high school and college athletes, values her name, image and likeness (NIL) at more than $1 million after her TaylorMade deal. The exact terms of Kai's deal with TaylorMade were not disclosed, but there is some information about her name, image and likeness valuation. She also has another NIL endorsement, in addition to the February golf equipment deal that propelled her valuation to more than $1 million. Kai Trump has an estimated NIL valuation of around $1.2 million, according to USA TODAY and the site On3 Sports. The site also reports she signed her first NIL deal with Leaf Trading Cards in January. A pack of Leaf Trading Cards retails for $199.99, On3 reported. Each pack contains one random autograph card. Her valuation after the TaylorMade deal makes her the No. 1 highest-valued player in girls' high school golf. When it comes to her valuation among women in college athletics (Kai is still only 17 years old and per USGA and Florida high school rules competes as a girls' golfer), she ranks in the top five NIL money-makers. She's outranked in NIL valuation by only three women, all college athletes: LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne, LSU basketball player Flau'Jae Johnson and UConn basketball player Paige Bueckers. Does Charlie Woods have an NIL deal? As of Monday, March 31, 2025, Charlie Woods has no confirmed name, image and likeness deal, but he is eligible, a state champion and his dad, Tiger Woods, is golf royalty, Charlie Woods is likely to have plenty of chances for NIL deals. Whether or not he takes a deal, though, is the question. Last June, The Palm Beach Post spoke with The Benjamin School boys' golf team coach Toby Harbeck. 'The four-time state champion golf coach went as far as to say that he would be 'shocked' and 'surprised' if the Woods signed any deal that came their way,' The Post reported. 'Obviously, someone's going to go in on Charlie, but I doubt they'll accept it,' Harbeck told The Post in June. 'I know them too well.' Can high schoolers make NIL money? Some high schoolers, like Kai Trump and Charlie Woods, are eligible for NIL deals, but not in every state. It's up to each state to decide whether or not high schoolers can profit from their NIL before college. Florida is a pioneer in NIL deals for high schoolers. It was the first state to approve NIL deals for high school athletes.
