Commuter 'wants to throw up' after spotting what woman is wearing on feet

A woman has sparked a debate after sharing a video of a stranger's shoes - saying they're 'not acceptable on public transport' and they're going to make her 'throw up' Everyone has their own unique sense of style - but some people just don't understand their 'vibe'. But one commuter believes a woman went too far with street fashion when she wore toe shoes on the tube when travelling around London. ‌ Pairing the outfit with blue wash jeans, she innocently sat cross-legged on her seat unknowingly 'offending' those around her with her choice in footwear. In a TikTok video, Feri, who is known as @feriliketheboat on social media, shared a clip of the stranger's shoes while saying: "No, this is not acceptable on public transport. Oh my God, they're your toes. Oh, I'm going to throw up. No, get them off." ‌ She later came to learn the shoes are from Vibram Five Fingers UK, who design and create shoes for barefoot running enthusiasts. ‌ A statement on their website reads: "Vibram FiveFingers were designed and created by the barefoot running enthusiast Robert Fliri and Marco Bramani the CEO and proprietor of Vibram worldwide in 2006. "This unique style of footwear immediately became popular with those who wanted the barefoot minimalist experience as well as protection and grip, without compromising sensory ground feedback. "The release of the best selling book ''Born to Run' by Christopher Macdougall in 2009 catapulted Vibram FiveFingers into the running world 's consciousness. ‌ "The book describes the ultra-race between the Tarahumara tribe of Mexican Indians and the elite of the western world's runners, the most famous of which was 'Barefoot' Ted Macdonald who famously competed in Vibram FiveFingers. "Since then Vibram FiveFingers has extended their appeal beyond the running world. There are different styles of Vibram FiveFingers for every activity: training, martial arts, weight lifting, hiking, water sports and much more – just select the pair for you." ‌ Even though the footwear was off-putting to the commuter, others didn't see anything wrong with it. They urged the TikToker to let people wear what they want. Commenting on the TikTok video, one user said: "Barefoot shoes are awesome, really good for strengthening your feet and super comfortable. As a runner I wear mine a lot, not that brand though." Another user added: "But I bet you wear flip flops." A third user said: "Funny how people have been brainwashed to think these are bad icky. They are one of the best shoes to support your natural foot position. Look at how these shoes we've designed are changing the structure of feet over time." One more user added: "How is this worse than flipflops?" Another user added: "Why everyone so judgy? The world is a better place if everyone is different and individual rather than all the same." A final user said: "These a barefoot shoes and are meant to be healthy for your feet. Though there are other barefoot shoes that are not toe shoes like Saguaro and Hobibear, Frodo Barefoot and many others."

In Mexico, a major liquefied natural gas export project raises environmental concerns

Whales or gas? To make the stakes clear from the outset, that is how 37 environmental organizations named their campaign against "Saguaro," Mexico's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project. Developed by Mexico Pacific Limited, the project calls for the construction of an 800-kilometer pipeline from the Permian Basin in Texas – where shale gas is extracted – to Puerto Libertad, in the state of Sonora, on the shore of the Gulf of California. The gulf, also known as the Sea of Cortez, was described by French star explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau as "the world's aquarium" because it is home to around 900 fish species and 36 species of cetaceans. In Puerto Libertad, a liquefaction plant covering 607 hectares could potentially be built to enable LNG to be shipped by tanker to Asia. Construction costs are estimated at nearly $14 billion; the project ultimately aims to produce 15 million metric tons of LNG per year. Whales could be the first victims, according to a study published in January by the Marine Mammal Research Program at the Autonomous University of Baja California, as nearly 200 ships are expected to dock annually in Puerto Libertad to load LNG. "The transit of LNG vessels through the Gulf of California threatens to become the main cause of death of large whales by collisions," the study concluded.

Know How To Spend A Day Exploring Goa City's Botanical Gardens

Goa, often celebrated for its pristine beaches and vibrant nightlife, also boasts serene green spaces that are perfect for nature lovers. Among these is the lesser-known but enchanting Botanical Garden of Goa , located in the capital city of Panaji. This lush expanse offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of tourist hotspots while showcasing the region's rich biodiversity. If you're planning to spend a day exploring this hidden gem, here's a guide to help you make the most of your visit. Start Your Day Early: Beat the Heat and Crowds The best time to explore any botanical garden is early morning when temperatures are cooler, and the gardens are less crowded. Aim to arrive by 8 AM or shortly after opening hours (typically around 9 AM). The soft morning light filters beautifully through the trees, creating an ethereal atmosphere ideal for photography enthusiasts. Additionally, mornings are great for spotting birds and other wildlife as they become active during this time. Pro Tip: Carry sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water, even if you plan to start early. Goa can get quite humid, especially during summer months. Understand the Layout: A Brief Overview of the Garden Before diving into exploration, take some time to understand the layout of the Botanical Garden. Spread across several acres, it features diverse sections dedicated to different types of flora, including native Goan plants, medicinal herbs, exotic species, and ornamental flowers. There are also walking trails, ponds, and shaded seating areas where visitors can relax. Pick up a map at the entrance or download one online beforehand so you don't miss out on key attractions within the park. Some notable sections include the cactus garden, butterfly park, and orchidarium. Explore the Cactus Garden: A Unique Experience One of the highlights of the Botanical Garden is its Cactus Garden , which houses a fascinating collection of succulents and cacti from around the world. These hardy plants thrive in arid conditions and come in various shapes and sizes, making them a visual treat. Look out for rare varieties like the Golden Barrel Cactus and the towering Saguaro. Take your time admiring the intricate patterns and textures of these desert dwellers. It's also a great spot for kids to learn about how plants adapt to survive in extreme environments. Visit the Butterfly Park: Witness Nature's Beauty Up Close Adjacent to the main garden lies the Butterfly Park , a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in entomology or simply captivated by these colorful creatures. The park mimics natural habitats with flowering plants that attract butterflies such as the Common Mormon, Plain Tiger, and Blue Mormon. While visiting, maintain silence and move slowly to avoid startling the butterflies. Bring binoculars or a macro lens camera to capture close-up shots without disturbing their delicate ecosystem. Learn About Medicinal Plants: Discover Traditional Wisdom For those intrigued by traditional medicine, the section dedicated to medicinal plants offers valuable insights into age-old practices. Here, you'll find species like neem, tulsi (holy basil), ashwagandha, and aloe vera, each accompanied by informative plaques detailing their uses in Ayurveda and folk remedies. This part of the garden not only educates visitors about the healing properties of plants but also emphasizes the importance of conserving these resources for future generations. Enjoy a Leisurely Walk Along Scenic Trails The Botanical Garden has well-maintained walking paths that wind through dense foliage, offering opportunities to immerse yourself in nature. As you stroll along these trails, keep an eye out for resident birds like kingfishers, sunbirds, and parakeets. You might even spot small mammals like squirrels or mongoose darting between bushes. If you're lucky, you may encounter migratory birds during winter months, adding another layer of excitement to your walk. Don't forget to pause occasionally to soak in the tranquility and listen to the soothing sounds of rustling leaves and chirping birds. Relax by the Pond: Unwind Amidst Tranquil Surroundings A picturesque pond nestled within the garden provides a serene setting to unwind. Surrounded by tall trees and aquatic plants like lotuses and water lilies, this area invites visitors to sit back and reflect. Benches placed strategically near the water allow you to enjoy the view while sipping on refreshments brought from home. Photographers will appreciate the reflections of the sky and surrounding greenery on the still surface of the pond, especially during golden hour. Pack a light snack or picnic lunch to fully embrace the laid-back vibe of this location. Bonus Tips for a Memorable Visit Wear Comfortable Footwear: With extensive grounds to cover, comfortable shoes are essential. Respect the Environment: Avoid littering and stick to designated pathways to preserve the garden's pristine condition. Engage with Guides: If available, hire a local guide who can provide deeper insights into the garden's history and ecology. Check Timings: Confirm operating hours before your visit, as they may vary depending on the season or special events. Super Bowl champion Kelee Ringo honored by Saguaro High

Kelee Ringo, one of the all-time greatest Arizona high school athletes, returned to his alma mater, Saguaro High, for an award that was as special to him as anything he has won since graduating in 2020. During a Monday morning assembly, Ringo was honored for his outstanding high school achievements. Advertisement He was a two-time state-champion football player and a state-champion track and field sprinter. After high school, he went on to win two college football national championships as a defensive back at Georgia, and this past NFL season, he became a Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles. "I was able to start my foundation here with the football thing," Ringo said. "My faith in the Lord. I went through adversity and things like that. It's still a dream come true to be back here and be with the people who helped build my foundation." Ringo moved from Washington State before his junior season and took off in football under coach Jason Mohns. As a cornerback and running back, he led the Sabercats to two state championships. His senior year at Saguaro, he was the No. 1-ranked cornerback in his class and an All-American. Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo (22) reacts against the Green Bay Packers during the first quarter in the NFC wild card game at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025. After signing with Georgia, he helped the Bulldogs win two CFP national championships in 2021 and '22. He was taken by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Advertisement Then, in only his second season in the NFL, he was part of the Eagles' Super Bowl championship victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. "It's just a surreal feeling," Ringo said. Ringo said he hasn't fully wrapped his head around with all of the championships he's been a part of, from high school to the NFL. "The thing I'm thankful for is the journey," he said. "It builds character. It is how I became who I am today." Coach Darius Kelly, who is in his second year leading the Saguaro football program, was proud to introduce Ringo inside the packed Saguaro gym, where alumni were being honored for their high school achievements. Advertisement "He first came here in July, and it was hot," Kelly said. "He stuck out it out. Eight years later, here he is. He's a good person. These kids can see that and believe they can make it, as well." To suggest human-interest story ideas and other news, reach Obert or 602-316-8827. Arizona and the Sonoran Desert's iconic Saguaro cacti are dying at intense rate due to extreme heat

The Brief The iconic Saguaro cactus is struggling as heat and drought intensify in Arizona. With record-setting summers in 2020, 2023 and 2024, scientists at the Desert Botanical Garden are noticing unusual patterns and symptoms as 20% of the sanctuary's cacti have dropped dead. They are scrambling to find ways to replace the dying cactus breed. PHOENIX - The heat and drought are taking a toll on Arizona's iconic Saguaro cactus. The symbol of the southwest may be in big trouble and scientists are scrambling to find answers. Why you should care Giant Saguaros, an icon of the southwest. This majestic cactus is found only in the Sonoran Desert. But over the last five years, people are noticing more and more of them are leaning, rotting and dying. So what's happening, and why are Arizona Saguaros so stressed? What they're saying "The top just broke off. Right after that happened, the whole skin just sort of slid right off," says Scott Buck. Buck bought his Gilbert home because of the beauty of the three giant Saguaros in the front yard. Within the last three years, two have died. "It was just a black, tarry, smelly mess and one is starting to decay. There was just the black goo that came shedding off its skin," he said. Kimberlie McCue, Chief Science Officer at the Desert Botanical Garden, is seeing a similar trend. "This is what's left of that, which was a very large Saguaro. It didn't just collapse, which is the normal thing that we used to see, it snapped," she said of a dead cactus in the sanctuary. What we know The morbid trend has hit the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden hard, where their family of about 1,000 Saguaros have recently been reduced to around 800. "In 2020, Saguaros started dying. It's definitely hotter than it used to be, consistently hotter in the summers than it use to be," she said. We had a hot, dry summer in 2020, 2023 was hotter and 2024 was worse. The hot temperatures put the cactus under stress, making their skin gummy and their insides more susceptible to disease. "A lot of Saguaros would drop an arm, also something we had never seen before," McCue said. Local perspective Corpses of giant cacti can be found across the state. Concerned by the current heat pattern we're in, scientists are thinking ahead, committed to replacing what the heat has killed off. "So what we have here on these racks under grow lights are many, many, many pots full of baby Saguaros that are being grown," she said. It will take years, but hundreds of these baby Saguaros will one day become giants. Big picture view Not all the cacti are dying. "But it's certainly a truth that even these beautifully-adapted desert plants have their limits."
