AR Rahman reacts to his 'Periya Bhai' nickname
AR Rahman is fondly called by many names in different parts of the country. Among Tamils, especially on X, he is popularly called 'Periya Bhai' by his fans. Recently, in an interview with Behindwoods, he was perplexed to hear his nickname and express his thoughts about it as well. 'Periya' in Tamil is loosely translated as big, while Bhai refers to his Muslim roots. While he is called 'Periya Bhai', composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, who converted to Islam, is 'Chinna' (young) Dhivayadharshini casually dropped his nickname in an interview with him. He was initially surprised and then laughed it off and said, "I don't like it. What is this 'Periya Bhai', 'Chinna Bhai'? Am I running a meat shop?"AR Rahman has been travelling with the team of 'Thug Life' ahead of its grand release. On Tuesday, the film's Hindi trailer was launched in Mumbai. Kamal Haasan, Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan, AR Rahman, Abhirami and Ashok Selvan represented the team at the press conference.
'Thug Life' is directed by Mani Ratnam, and it marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan and the filmmaker, 37 years after the iconic 'Nayakan'. The film is gearing up for a grand release on June 5 in many Rahman released 'Jinguchaa' single from 'Thug Life', which became a chartbuster on many streaming platforms. The second song, 'Sugar Baby' featuring Trisha, will be out on May 21. The team will hold events across India, including an audio launch in Chennai on May 24 at Sai Ram Engineering Reel
