PHOTO: THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK PETALING JAYA – Malaysian comedian and actor Saiful Apek has commented on a photo that showed him with the police, which went viral on April 29. An entertainment portal reported earlier that a comedian dressed in a pink baju Melayu resembling Saiful was allegedly detained by two police officers. The actual location and cause of the incident could not be confirmed. Saiful , whose real name is Saiful Azam Mohamed Yusoff, told Malaysian newspaper Sinar Harian he was not detained by the authorities. What happened was that two police officers broke up a dispute between him and an unknown individual. The 55-year-old said the incident occurred while he was at an event hosted by Malaysia's Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, in Cheras on April 28. 'After performing and promoting the film 6 Jilake, an unknown person suddenly appeared and provoked me about the film,' Saiful said. 'I thought he was joking initially, but I lost patience after a while.' Saiful, one of the stars of the movie, said he stood up and left to prevent the situation from escalating. 'I thought it was over then, but when I went to the carpark, the individual continued to provoke me until the police intervened to break up our dispute,' he said. Saiful added that what upset him most was that the man was insulting 6 Jilake (2025) director Aziz M. Osman. 'What really bothered me was when he mentioned abang Aziz and called the film rubbish,' Saiful said. 'If it was just my name, I could control my emotions, but this involved someone I consider a mentor.' The member of comedy group Senario also apologised to his family and friends who may have been affected by the situation. 'I hope everyone is clear with this statement and I ask everyone to stay calm, especially family and close friends who were shocked by what happened,' he said. 'What worried me most was when many contacted the members of Senario, especially Azlee, whom we know has a heart condition,' he said, referring to comedian Azlee Jaafar. Malaysian comedian Saiful Apek clarifies viral photo of him with policemen
Veteran Malaysian comedian Saiful Azam Mohamed Yusoff, more popularly known as Saiful Apek, has addressed a viral photo of him being detained. On Tuesday (Apr 29), multiple news outlets in Malaysia reported on a photo showing a man dressed in pink, who was claimed to be Saiful, and another man, dressed in black, being held by policemen. The reports led many netizens to speculate that the 55-year-old had been arrested for a crime. View this post on Instagram A post shared by 6 Jilake (@6jilakemovie) The following day, Saiful Apek spoke with Malaysian media outlets, confirming that the person in the photo was him. However, he denied that he had been arrested and clarified the circumstances that led to the photo, claiming that the police were there to intervene in an argument between him and the man dressed in black. According to the Cicak Man star, he was at a Hari Raya event hosted by Razarudin Husain, the Inspector-General of Police in Malaysia. During the event, Saiful called on attendees to watch the recently-released film 6 Jilake, which starred him and was directed by famed filmmaker Aziz M Osman. Saiful added that the man in black then approached Saiful and called the film "trash". The man also allegedly said that Saiful should tell Aziz M Osman to "just relax at home since his direction has become terrible". "It's okay if someone insults me," said Saiful to reporters. "But when [the man] directly spoke about someone I considered a 'sifu', I couldn't accept it." Saiful added that in a bid to stop tensions, he left the venue and headed to a parking lot. However, the man followed him and continued to provoke him. Eventually, police officers at the event had to break up the argument. Saiful Apek then apologised to friends and family members who had been affected by the photo. 'I hope everyone is clear about this statement. I ask everyone to remain calm, especially family members and close friends who are shocked to hear what happened," he said. "What worries me the most is that many people have been contacting the members of [Saiful Apek's comedy troupe] Senario, especially Azlee, who, as we know, has a heart condition.'

#SHOWBIZ: Saiful Apek: I was arrested due to a fight
KUALA LUMPUR: Popular comedian Saiful Apek has confirmed his identity as the individual depicted in a viral video of a recent police arrest. "I can confirm that it is indeed my photo. I know many are now wondering about the circumstances of my arrest," Saiful told BH Online. "What I can say at this time is that it stemmed from an altercation. That's all I'm prepared to reveal for now. I will provide a full explanation later," he added. The incident, which surfaced yesterday, involved a portal report of a comedian resembling Saiful Apek, clad in a pink shirt, being detained by two police officers. The location and specific reasons for the arrest were initially unclear. Saiful, a member of the renowned comedy troupe Scenario, expressed his regret over how quickly sensationalised news can spread. "It's a familiar refrain: good deeds often go unnoticed, while missteps are amplified, and in the absence of information, speculation runs rampant," he said. "I urge everyone to refrain from spreading unverified information until you hear the full story directly from the source," said the 56-year-old artiste, whose real name is Mohd Saiful Azam Mohamed Yusoff. "Avoid jumping to conclusions, regardless of where your sympathies lie." "Rest assured, I will provide a comprehensive explanation in due course. In the meantime, I ask for your prayers and refrain from sharing unconfirmed reports," he said. This incident follows closely on the heels of another recent controversy involving a Scenario member. In March, Yassin Yahya was reportedly detained by Saudi Arabian authorities at Jeddah Airport while performing Umrah with friends. The comedian is believed to be serving a six-month prison sentence, following his conviction in November of last year, on suspicion of carrying prohibited substances.
