Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said the offer will be available at all district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) counters statewide from Aug 26 to 28, between 8am and 5pm. 'This initiative is part of our efforts to encourage the public to clear their outstanding summonses while promoting better road safety awareness,' he said in a statement yesterday. However, he stressed that the discount will not apply to certain categories of offences, including those involving fatalities, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and cases still under court mention. KUCHING, Aug 8 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will offer a 50 per cent discount on traffic summonses at counters opened throughout Sarawak in conjunction with the 68th National Day celebrations. Sarawak deputy chief commissioner Saifullizan Ishak said the discounts are applicable at all COPS district traffic investigation and enforcement division counters and payments can be made in cash, debit and credit cards. 'The 50 per cent discount is given for all traffic summonses that can be compounded under the Road Transport (Compounding of Offences) Rules 2003. 'The initiative is aimed at reducing the people's financial burden and to encourage the public to settle their outstanding summonses,' he said in a statement today. The counters, which are open from August 26 to 28, are located at Kuching, Padawan, Kota Samarahan, Serian, Lundu, Sri Aman, Lubok Antu, Betong, Saratok, Sarikei, Meradong, Sibu, Julau, Kapit, Dalat, Mukah, Tatau, Bintulu, Belaga, Miri, Limbang and Lawas, he added. The summonses can be paid at police stations statewide from August 26 to 28, according to state DCP Saifullizan Ishak in a statement on Friday (August 8). He said the move is to ease the public's financial burden and encourage settlement of outstanding police summonses. 'This effort is not just about reducing summonses. It reflects our concern for the people and our desire to foster closer ties between the police and the community, in the spirit of unity and well-being,' he added. The discount applies to compoundable traffic offences under the Road Transport (Compounding of Offences) Rules 2003. However, the offer excludes 10 categories of offences: road accidents; traffic offences under trial; heavy vehicle-related offences; dangerous overtaking; use of the emergency lane; non-compoundable offences; disobeying traffic light signals; overtaking on double lines; illegal exhaust modifications; and summonses under Safe Ops status.

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak said the initiative will be implemented at all district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement counters across the state. The discount applies only to compoundable traffic offences under the Road Transport (Compounding of Offences) Rules 2003. 'However, 10 traffic offenses are not liable for the 50 per cent discount. 'They are road accidents, road offenses involving trials, dangerous overtaking, offenses on heavy vehicles, illegal use of emergency lanes, non compoundable offenses, jumping the red traffic light, overtaking at a double lane, exhaust modifications, and summons with the OP Selamat status,' he said. Saifullizan added that the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on the public and encourage them to settle outstanding summons.
