The SPVM said it received 911 calls around 5:20 p.m. about a man in distress by Verdun Beach. He was playing a sport in the Saint-Lawrence River near LaSalle Boulevard and de l'Église Street. When they arrived, officers could not find him from the shore. SPVM divers, the Montreal Fire Department and the Canadian Coast Guard searched well into the night, police said Sunday morning. Witnesses were interviewed on-site Saturday. The search resumed Sunday morning.
