Housefull 5 gets U/A certificate after CBFC trims ‘champagne comming', ‘sensual visuals', and dialogues; both Housefull 5A and 5B versions cleared

The fifth installment of the hit Housefull franchise is all set for a theatrical release on June 6, and just ahead of its premiere, the comedy entertainer has cleared all formalities with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala , Housefull 5 has been granted a U/A 16+ certificate, but not without a few mandatory cuts and tweaks. Minor audio and visual edits ahead of release As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC instructed the makers to implement minor modifications before granting clearance. On the audio front, changes included altering the dialogue 'nikal dungi' and another line starting with 'apne', along with replacing certain words such as 'item' and 'haram' with more socially acceptable alternatives. One particular dialogue at the 1 hour and 53-minute mark was also ordered to be removed. Visually, the film saw three key edits. A scene involving 'champagne comming' was trimmed, and two scenes containing inappropriate hand gestures were suitably modified. Additionally, a brief moment featuring 'sensual visuals' was reduced by two seconds, contributing to a total of 11 seconds of trimmed or altered footage. Housefull 5 - Official Trailer Dual certification: A new strategy? In an interesting move, the CBFC has certified two versions of the film—Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B—on May 28. While it's unclear how the two versions differ, both have the exact same runtime of 165.48 minutes (2 hours, 45 minutes, and 48 seconds), making this a first-of-its-kind strategy for a mainstream Bollywood film. Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5 Ending To Vary Across Theatres

Before Akshay Kumar returns with his superhit Housefull franchise in theatres, producer Sajid Nadiadwala made a unique announcement. He mentioned that Housefull 5 will offer a groundbreaking twist in cinematic storytelling by featuring two entirely different climaxes, with each theatre presenting its unique ending. The bold experiment was announced on the 75th anniversary of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. Alternate endings are rarely explored in cinema history – probably not on this scale. This time, Housefull 5 is not just about comedy. It's a murder mystery that embraces narrative unpredictability, supported by the star power and mass appeal of a successful franchise. Speaking about it, Sajid Nadiadwala shared, 'With Housefull 5, we wanted to take a bold creative swing that hasn't been done before internationally for any thriller film. The idea of having multiple endings, multiple experiences has been with me for 30 years. Since, i wanted to make Housefull 5 a thriller comedy, there couldn't have been a better way to execute my idea of having multiple endings than this." He added, 'It felt right to do something radical as we celebrate 75 years of Nadiadwala Grandson in the industry. Housefull is India's biggest comedy franchise and for the fifth instalment, we had to push the boundaries of what comedy can be. The idea of different endings came from a simple question: why should the audience always have just one version of the truth in a thriller? With Housefull 5, we've built a film that plays with form while staying completely rooted in entertainment. It's a killer comedy, literally, with twists that change depending on where you're watching it. and I'm proud we're doing it under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson as we mark 75 years in the business. Our legacy has always been about embracing scale, stars, and giving audiences newer experiences and Housefull 5 takes all it to another level." He further mentioned, 'It's a natural extension of the theatrical experience: creating intrigue, rewatch value, and a sense of discovery. In a world of spoilers and algorithms, we're bringing back that element of surprise. And that's where the fun begins." For distributors, this format creates both opportunities and challenges. Sanjay Chatar of Pen Marudhar described it as adding 'an entirely new layer of interactivity to the theatrical experience," requiring close collaboration with exhibitors to ensure 'optimal programming, audience flow, and discoverability across locations." 'We're excited to support the launch of Housefull 5 with this groundbreaking multi-ending format—the first time such a release strategy has been attempted at scale in Indian cinema. Each of our locations will screen both versions of the film, programmed either across different screens or staggered showtimes. This gives moviegoers more choice, more engagement, and more reason to return to the theatre." Kamal Gianchandani – Chief Business planning & Strategy at PVR INOX said. Housefull 5 boasts an ensemble of 19 stars, comprising Akshay Kumar, joined by returning favourites and some new faces including Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chitrangada Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Dino Morea, Ranjeet, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer, and Akashdeep Sabir. The film, directed by Tarun Mansukhani, releases on June 6, 2025.

Explained: Housefull 5's genius gamble of multiple climaxes, and how it works

'Housefull 5' producer and writer Sajid Nadiadwala announced earlier this week that the film is going to have multiple climaxes. This is a first-of-its-kind thing in Hindi cinema. But, is it exciting or confusing? A case of many endings in one film - how is this possible? What does it even mean? We've got you covered.'Housefull 5' is the fifth instalment in the comedy franchise, led by Akshay Kumar. This time, many new and popular names have joined the film, including Nana Patekar, Sanjay Dutt, and Jackie Shroff, among others. While on its surface, it is a pure comedy - funny one-liners and self-deprecating jokes - it's more than what meets the Tarun Mansukhani-directorial is a thriller, a whodunnit. The film features actor Ranjit as a billionaire who is murdered on a luxury cruise. The confusion and comedy arise from one question: Who has done it? Since the film has been conceptualised as a murder mystery, the big question will remain unanswered until the very end. And that's where the makers have decided to twist the climax a bit more by introducing a new strategy. At the trailer launch itself, Nadiadwala explained this said, "So if you watch it at Gaiety, it'll have one killer. If you watch it at Galaxy, there'll be somebody else. On PVR screen number 4, you'll see a different killer, and on PVR screen number 5, yet another one. It's like every time you watch the film, you'll get a different ending."advertisementSo how many climaxes does the film have?'Housefull 5' has got two separate climaxes. The film was written in a way that it could have two endings. However, none of it is going to take the joy away from the audience's experience. In fact, it has been intended to do the exact it's a murder mystery, it is centred around the search for the killer, who's hiding in plain sight. So, does this mean the film has two killers? No, the film has only one killer. However, the person playing the killer will be different in two if you are watching a film in one theatre, you might find that character A has done the murder, and if you watch it again in the same theatre or on a different screen, character B might emerge as the murderer. There are two endings and each has one you look at it, it's a masterstroke. This will compel the audience, especially the fans of the whodunnit genre and the 'Housefull' franchise, to come back to know who else could be the killer and how the ending will shape up in the version that they haven't watched the distributors and exhibitors are ready to experiment with this new strategy. The plan is set. Once the advance booking begins, the audience will have the choice to select which version of the film they want to watch. For example: the options available while booking could be 'Housefull 5 A' and 'Housefull 5 B', and you'll meet the killer according to which version you choose while booking the ticket. This increases the chances of the film's success from both business and critical perspectives. You get two climaxes to understand if the film has shaped up well into a massive ensemble entertainer, and also add to the box office if you decide to watch the other version of the film. So, while you get double joy, depending upon if you like the story initially, the makers eye double the profit on the same budget. Hence, a masterstroke decision which can end up in a win-win situation for both the audiences and the makers of 'Housefull 5'.Of course, it is too soon to assume that this will indeed end up helping the film's business and its critical reception. However, having two climaxes, at least in an innovative aspect, helps add a novelty factor to the film. This innovation might create a new benchmark for Hindi cinema, or could totally backfire. Let's figure this out on June 6. IN THIS STORY#Akshay Kumar

Housefull 5: Sajid Nadiadwala's 30-year-old idea behind film's double endings? Truth revealed

The much-awaited trailer of Housefull 5 has finally been released, and it brought with it an unexpected twist from producer Sajid Nadiadwala at the launch event. As the fifth installment of one of Bollywood's most successful comedy franchises gears up for its grand release on June 6, 2025, Nadiadwala revealed that the film will feature two alternate endings. He has now shared his thoughts on experimenting with multiple conclusions for the comedy entertainer. Sajid Nadiadwala on dual endings of Housefull 5 During the trailer launch of Housefull 5, producer Sajid Nadiadwala shared that he had been toying with the idea of multiple endings for nearly 30 years. He explained that he often wondered, if he were to make a thriller, what the X-factor would be, and how audiences would react if the identity of the villain remained a mystery until the very end. As Pinkvilla earlier reported, the makers of Housefull 5 had submitted two separate versions of the film to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The comic thriller was touted as a one-of-a-kind project, and both versions were reportedly viewed by the board before receiving a U/A certificate. While the specific reason behind certifying two distinct edits was kept under wraps, sources close to the production had indicated that producer Sajid Nadiadwala, who also wrote the story and screenplay, was planning something unconventional that would catch both the audience and the industry off guard. The report further stated that Housefull 5 was likely to become one of the rare films to hold two censor certificates, with the rationale behind the decision expected to be revealed closer to the release. Additionally, it was revealed that the film featured a massive ensemble cast of 24 actors and had a runtime of 2 hours and 43 minutes, making it the longest film in the franchise. Despite retaining the trademark chaos and confusion the series is known for, the storytelling format was said to be unlike anything seen before, promising a fresh twist on the franchise's trademark comedy. During the conversation, actor Fardeen Khan remarked that even the cast of the film were not aware of the twist and it was narrated to them after they finished the shooting. Sajid confirmed it and said, even half of the cast doesn't know who the killer is, to maintain the secrecy of the murder mystery. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 is a comedy of errors along with a murder mystery that unfolds on a luxury cruise. According to the trailer, Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan emerge as the main suspects. The film boasts a star-studded ensemble cast which also include Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Chitrangada Singh, Shreyas Talpade, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Panday, and more. The movie is set to hit the theaters on June 6. ALSO READ: EXCLUSIVE: Sajid Nadiadwala submits 2 versions of Akshay Kumar led Housefull 5 to CBFC; Film certified U/A
