Passengers travelling through Oman's airports exceed 3.5mn by end of March 2025
Muscat: The total number of passengers travelling through the airports of the Sultanate of Oman by the end of March 2025 reached 3,541,038, according to preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). Meanwhile, the total number of flights landing and departing from the airports of the Sultanate of Oman by the end of March 2025 reached 24,719 flights. The number of passengers through Muscat International Airport by the end of March 2025 reached 3,183,817 passengers compared to 3,482,325 passengers during the same period in 2024, constituting a decrease of 8.6%. The number of flights through Muscat International Airport by the end of March 2025 reached 22,347 flights, decreasing by 11.3%, compared to 25,204 flights during the same period of the previous year. Indians topped the number of passengers through Muscat International Airport by the end of March 2025, with 79,641 passenger arrivals and 78,453 passenger departures, followed by Omani nationals reaching 29,575 incoming passengers and 28,612 departing passengers, and the Pakistani nationality with 16,263 arriving passengers and 23,719 departing passengers. By the end of March 2025, Salalah Airport recorded a total of 342,491 passengers, an increase of 5.4% compared to 325,035 passengers during the same period in 2024. This growth occurred despite a 5.3% decline in the number of flights, which dropped to 2,166 from 2,288 flights recorded in the corresponding period last year. Sohar Airport recorded a total of 307 passengers by the end of March 2025, a decline of 98.2% from 17,462 passengers during the same period in 2024. The number of flights also dropped significantly to 54, compared to 154 flights in the corresponding period last year, a decrease of 64.9%. Meanwhile, Duqm Airport experienced a slight decrease in flight operations, with a 2.6% drop by the end of March 2025, registering 152 flights compared to 156 flights during the same period last year. The number of passengers also declined by 7.1%, totaling 14,423 passengers compared to 15,532 passengers at the end of March 2024.

Bids invited for hotel, commerical complex at Salalah Airport
Muscat: Oman Airports has floated tenders to design, build, and operate of hotel with a commercial complex at Salalah Airport. The last date for the purchase of documents is July 13. The company also floated a tender for the provision of food & beverage outlets at the Mezzanine level at Muscat International Airport, with the last date to purchase the Request for Proposal (RFP) is May 8. Recently speaking at the annual media briefing to review its performance and strategies, Oman Airports' acting CEO, Hamood bin Musbah al Alawi, said that the main challenge has been to ensure operational performance and the optimum use of assets. He said that Oman Airports launched a comprehensive transformation strategy to improve efficiency and passenger experience through self-service baggage drop systems, advanced crowd management solutions, a centralized digital dashboard, and system upgrades across airports. Despite facing legacy challenges such as high emergency maintenance costs and underutilized airport land, the company recorded significant milestones, he said. The parking lot management, of managed by a foreign operator, will be handled by Oman Airports, and it will help the company to boost its revenues. In 2025, passenger traffic at Muscat Airport increased by 12.9 percent compared to 2023 and is expected to return to pre-COVID levels by 2026, with transit passengers. Salalah Airport is nearing its full capacity and has been receiving direct flights from Europe. Salalah Airport surpassed 2019 figures by 17.3 percent, RO114.5 million in operational revenues, RO42.6 million in total group revenues, RO23.5 million net profit (+15%), the highest EBITDA since establishment (+43 percent), and a 33 percent increase in shareholder equity. It may be noted that Khareef season in Dhofar attracted 1,048,000 visitors between June 21 and September 21, 2024, reflecting a nine per cent increase compared to the same period in 2023, when the number of visitors was 962,000.

MUSCAT, APRIL 23 Oman airports are witnessing an increase in the number of passengers with tourist visas, alongside a 7-per cent rise in the number of passengers coming directly from their destinations to the Sultanate of Oman. In his opening remarks during the annual media briefing, Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, emphasised the importance of strategic collaboration between Oman Airports and Oman Air to enhance service quality and Oman's competitiveness regionally and globally. He noted that the integrated vision between both companies reflects a national approach towards a prosperous and sustainable future for the aviation sector. Speaking on the occasion, Hamood bin Musbah al Alawi, Acting CEO of Oman Airports, said that the main challenge is to ensure operational performance and the optimum use of assets. Oman Air, which began its transformation in 2023, marked a number of significant milestones in 2024 as it seeks to achieve financial sustainability: EBITDA improved by 51 per cent, compared to 2023 (after audit); during 2024. Oman Air carried over 5.4 million passengers, with the number of available seat kilometres (ASK) reported at around 19.4 billion. Point-to-point traffic increased to 40 per cent of passengers, up from 27 per cent in 2019. Oman Air achieved 92 per cent On-Time Performance. Oman Airports launched a comprehensive transformation strategy to improve efficiency and passenger experience through self-service baggage drop systems, advanced crowd management solutions, a centralised digital dashboard and system upgrades across airports. Salalah Airport has surpassed 2019 figures by 17.3 per cent, with RO 114.5 million in operational revenues, RO 42.6 million in total group revenues, RO 23.5 million net profit (+15 per cent), the highest EBITDA since establishment (+43 per cent), and a 33-per cent increase in shareholder equity.

Oman's airports handle over 2.5 million passengers by end of February 2025
Muscat: The number of passengers passing through the Sultanate of Oman's airports by the end of February 2025 saw a decrease of 6.7 percent, reaching 2,535,246, compared to 2,717,835 passengers during the same period in 2024. Preliminary data from the National Center for Statistics and Information revealed this decline across the Sultanate's airports, with varying impacts on individual locations. Muscat International Airport experienced a 7.5 percent decrease in passenger numbers, handling approximately 2,280,280 passengers by the end of February 2025, down from 2,463,856 in the corresponding period of 2024. The total number of flights at Muscat International Airport also fell by 11 percent, reaching 15,133 compared to 16,996 flights in February 2024. Indian, Omani, and Pakistani nationals were the most frequent travellers through Muscat International Airport during February 2025. In contrast, Salalah Airport recorded a 5.4 percent increase in passenger numbers, reaching 244,590 by the end of February 2025, up from 232,077 in the same period last year. However, the total number of flights at Salalah Airport decreased by 8.1 percent, from 1,572 to 1,444 flights. Sohar Airport witnessed a significant decline in activity, with the number of flights decreasing by 74.5 percent to just 28 by the end of February, compared to 110 flights in the same period of 2024. Passenger numbers at Sohar Airport also dropped dramatically by 98 percent, reaching only 226 passengers, down from 11,410 in February 2024. Duqm Airport also experienced a slight decrease in both flights and passengers.
