Oman's airports handle over 2.5 million passengers by end of February 2025
Muscat: The number of passengers passing through the Sultanate of Oman's airports by the end of February 2025 saw a decrease of 6.7 percent, reaching 2,535,246, compared to 2,717,835 passengers during the same period in 2024. Preliminary data from the National Center for Statistics and Information revealed this decline across the Sultanate's airports, with varying impacts on individual locations.
Muscat International Airport experienced a 7.5 percent decrease in passenger numbers, handling approximately 2,280,280 passengers by the end of February 2025, down from 2,463,856 in the corresponding period of 2024. The total number of flights at Muscat International Airport also fell by 11 percent, reaching 15,133 compared to 16,996 flights in February 2024. Indian, Omani, and Pakistani nationals were the most frequent travellers through Muscat International Airport during February 2025.
In contrast, Salalah Airport recorded a 5.4 percent increase in passenger numbers, reaching 244,590 by the end of February 2025, up from 232,077 in the same period last year. However, the total number of flights at Salalah Airport decreased by 8.1 percent, from 1,572 to 1,444 flights.
Sohar Airport witnessed a significant decline in activity, with the number of flights decreasing by 74.5 percent to just 28 by the end of February, compared to 110 flights in the same period of 2024. Passenger numbers at Sohar Airport also dropped dramatically by 98 percent, reaching only 226 passengers, down from 11,410 in February 2024.
Duqm Airport also experienced a slight decrease in both flights and passengers. The number of flights fell by 3.8 percent to 100, compared to 104 in February 2024, while passenger numbers decreased by 3.3 percent, reaching 10,150, down from 10,492 in the same period last year.

Foundations for the Game in Sharjah During the meeting, discussions were held on establishing a dedicated headquarters for the sport and developing baseball fields as a foundation for spreading the game. Plans include organising local competitions and hosting international championships in the future. The two sides also explored initiatives to launch youth academies and school programmes to scout talent, as well as leveraging the global league platform to market Sharjah as a sports, tourism, and educational destination for baseball. Sharjah's Competitive Edge Following the meeting, His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami emphasised that Sharjah possesses the right environment to promote baseball, especially considering its popularity among Asian communities. He pointed out that the sport shares many similarities with cricket—a game that already holds a distinguished position in the Emirate, thanks to its large fan base and the iconic Sharjah Stadium, which hosts international championships. He stressed that incorporating baseball and participating in the Asian league would ensure guaranteed promotion and significant exposure for the emirate. Pakistan's PM Shahbaz set to embark on UAE visit on Thursday
Gulf Today Report Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to undertake an official visit to the UAE on Thursday, along with a high-level delegation. A press release issued by the Foreign Office on Wednesday said that the visit reflected the 'deep-rooted fraternal ties' between Pakistan and the UAE, marked by mutual trust, shared values, and close cooperation across multiple sectors. 'The PM will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers, and other senior officers,' the press release said. During the visit, PM Shahbaz will hold high-level meetings with the UAE leadership, including a bilateral meeting with the President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. A wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues of mutual interest and concern will be discussed during the high-level interactions. According to the Foreign Office, the prime minister's visit will serve to further strengthen the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and the UAE, deepen economic ties, and foster multifaceted collaboration. It said that the visit was a 'manifestation of Pakistan's and UAE's shared commitment to bolstering the mutually beneficial strategic partnership, enhancing cooperation in existing areas of mutual interest, and exploring new avenues for further strengthening the bilateral cordial relations.'
