Green Falcons resume training before facing US in Texas
SAN DIEGO: Saudi Arabia's national football team resumed training in San Diego on Monday ahead of Thursday's match against the USA in Austin, Texas. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport The Green Falcons arrived in Los Angeles last week to take part in the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, hosted by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football. Coach Herve Renard divided the squad into two groups. The first was made up of squad members who played in the match against Haiti on Sunday, with training including recovery exercises in the hotel gym. The remaining players took part in a warm-up followed by passing training, games and stretching exercises at the San Diego Performance Center. An MRI scan revealed that Hassan Kadesh has sustained a hamstring injury. He is currently undergoing treatment under the supervision of medical staff. Teammate Muhannad Al-Saad is also continuing his rehabilitation program. The Green Falcons leave San Diego on Tuesday afternoon local time to travel to Austin, where they will continue match preparations with a closed training session at St Edward's University. Saudi Arabia are riding on a wave of success after their victory against Haiti, when Saleh Al-Shehri's 21st-minute penalty kick gave his team a 1-0 win in CONCACAF Gold Cup Group A.

Al-Shehri drew a foul in the penalty area on Frantzdy Pierrot in the 18th minute, then converted a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner to lift Saudi Arabia (1-0-0, 3 points) in the opener for both teams. Haiti had an opportunity to pull even in the fifth minute of second half stoppage-time, but Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi (four saves) denied Dany Jean in the centre of the goal on a right-footed shot from outside the box. Haiti (0-1-0, 0 points) posted a decisive edge in corner kicks (11-1), but Saudi Arabia finished with more shots on goal (5-4) and shot attempts (13-7). Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide finished with three saves.

JEDDAH: Al-Ittihad striker Saleh Al-Shehri has returned to full training ahead of the club's Saudi Pro League title celebrations and their final league fixture against Damac on Monday. He missed five games during his recovery but trained with the squad on Saturday under the watchful eye of head coach Laurent Blanc. His return comes as a timely boost for the Jeddah club, which will also welcome back several key players ahead of a crucial fortnight. French striker Karim Benzema and Algerian midfielder Houssem Aouar are both back from injury, while Brazilian enforcer Fabinho Tavares is available once again after serving a one-match suspension for yellow card accumulation.
