Delhi Police arrests Salim Pistol, a 'wanted' illegal arms supplier from Indo-Nepal border
The Delhi Police's Special Cell on Wednesday said that they arrested and brought back Salim Sheikh alias Salim Pistol, a 'wanted' illegal arms supplier to the Capital, after his arrest from the Indo-Nepal border, officials to the police, Sheikh was detained on Saturday from the India-Nepal border by a team of Special Cell officials and the Kathmandu police. 'Salim was detained on Saturday and after interrogation he was arrested and brought back to India on Monday,' said the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik confirmed the development and told The Hindu that he was in police custody. 'The team has brought Salim Sheikh to Delhi and is in police custody being interrogated,' said the officer. According to officials, the Sheikh was allegedly the first illegal arms supplier to supply Zigana pistols to gangsters in India. 'He has been supplying arms to gangsters like Lawrence Bishnoi and Hashim Baba from abroad,' said a senior police officer. The officer also alleged that Sheikh is also allegedly associated with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and with Dawood Ibrahim and his D-Company. Sheikh's name has been allegedly associated with top high profile murders, the first being Sidhu Moosewala's murder where he allegedly mentored one of the accused. Further, the officer also added that Sheikh's name also cropped up during the investigation of NCP leader Baba Siddique's murder, for allegedly supplying arms to the accused. According to the police, Sheikh (52) hailed from Delhi's Seelampur, was last arrested in 2018 in an arms supply case. 'He fled abroad after getting bail and since then has been evading arrest,' said the police. The police told The Hindu that the accused built a base in Nepal after evading arrest by the police in India and had been visiting the neighbouring country frequently. It is after a tip off where it was learnt that the accused would be meeting an associate in Kathmandu, that the team detained him on Saturday along with Kathmandu police. The accused first started was named in several FIRs for car thefts, followed by armed robberies and then arms supply. According to the police, Sheikh dropped out of school after 8th class due to poverty and started working as a driver. 'He first started auto lifting with his friend Mukesh Gupta alias Kaka, and later committed armed robberies and supplying arms to gangsters in India from abroad,' said the officer. At present there are 9 FIRs against him under arms act, robbery, extortion, intimidation, from 1992 onwards; when he was booked under section 433 IPC for destroying property. The police at present Sheikh is being interrogated by the police for his involvement in several high profile cases, the officer said.

Bangladeshi arrested with dual identity cards, triggers BJP vs Trinamool spat
A Bangladeshi national was arrested at an immigration point in West Bengal while attempting to enter the country using an Indian identity card. The arrested person, Salim Sheikh (31) from Murshidabad, was found to have dual sources said a Bangladeshi identity card was seized from his possession during checks at the Mahdipur Immigration Point in Malda. The card showed his name to be Mohammad Dilwar (30) from investigation revealed that he was using an Indian identity card to pose as a local resident. The police also recovered an Aadhaar card, voter card, passport, visa, and some Indian currency from his possession. The English Bazaar police took Sheikh into custody and produced him before the Malda District Court. The court sent him to six-day police police officer Pradeep Kumar Yadav said an investigation into the incident has been launched. Nagpur event honours theatre artists and children at divisional award ceremony
Nagpur: As many as 127 theatre artists , technicians, and children were felicitated at the Divisional Award Ceremony for the 63rd Maharashtra State Amateur Marathi Drama Competition and the 21st State Children's Drama Competition on Monday at Sai Sabhagruh . Organised by the directorate of cultural affairs (DCA), Maharashtra govt, the grand felicitation ceremony was attended by prominent names from the theatre fraternity. Ajay Patil, president of Natya Parishad Nagpur Branch; Salim Sheikh, president of the Mahanagar branch; Ravindra Fadnavis of Bal Kala Akademi; Geetabali Unhavae from Mumbai Natya Parishad; Jayashree Kapse, senior director; Chandrashekhar Dorle from Amravati; and Sandip Shende, assistant director of DCA, were among the dignitaries present. The event honoured outstanding performers from both adult and children's categories. Renowned theatre personalities, including actors Puja Pimpalkar and Sachin Giri, playwright Asawari Naidu, and other prominent figures like Ravindra Bhusari, Rakesh Khade, Virendra Latankar, Baba Padam, Vishal Yadav, and Subodh Surjikar, also felicitated the winners. Reflecting on the importance of timely recognition, organisers said, "It is now strategically decided to hold the divisional-level prize distribution within a year of the competition results to avoid delays. Timely distribution of prize money is crucial for sustaining amateur theatre in Maharashtra." The prize money was revised recently, with the first prize team receiving Rs40,000, second place Rs30,000, and individual technicians and directors receiving between Rs5,000 and Rs20,000. Silver medals and certificates were awarded to the actors. One of the notable winners, Hrushikesh Vinayak Niwal, won two awards — Best Director in the children's play category and an appreciation certificate for acting in the state festival held in Chandrapur. 23 years on, man arrested for double murder
Ahmedabad: The city crime branch caught a man wanted for 23 years in a double-murder case. Nirupam Kansagara , 53, was arrested in Surat on Saturday. In 2002, two men, Salim Sheikh and Devshi Bharwad, were murdered by six people in Gandhinagar 's Pethapur village. After the murder, the bodies were put in their own car, which was then set on fire with petrol near Vavol and Uvarsad. He introduced himself to others as "Munnabhai Patel." The crime branch received information that Kansagara was now living in Surat. Based on technical and human sources, police caught him in the Bharuch-Dahej area. During the investigation, it was found that Kansagara first went to Maharashtra after the murders. Later, he worked on a farm near Chotila for six years. After that, he worked in a company in Halol and then started a generator rental business in Bharuch. In the original case, five accused were arrested earlier and sentenced to life imprisonment. The main accused, Jashu Patel, died in 2009. The motive for the murder was a financial dispute of Rs 1.40 lakh between Jashu Patel and Salim Sheikh. The city crime branch has now handed over Kansagara to Pethapur police for further action.
