Slim River toll plaza reborn as thriving Agrobazaar hub
TANJONG MALIM: The former Slim River toll plaza has been revitalised as Medan Agrobazaar Tol Lama, serving as a key agricultural marketing hub for Muallim district and nearby regions. Since its launch in February, the agrobazaar has generated RM25,700 in sales, offering fresh produce and agro-based food products. Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli stated that four local entrepreneurs currently operate daily at the site. 'We aim to establish this as a central hub for agricultural produce from Muallim, Batang Padang, and Hulu Bernam, distributing goods nationwide,' he said during the launch event. The agrobazaar specialises in fresh fruits, young coconuts, juices, and agri-based food products from local producers. Behrang assemblyman Salina Samsudin, FAMA director-general Abd Rashid Bahri, and Muallim District Officer Mohd Sabli Bakri attended the launch. Aminuddin highlighted the agrobazaar's role as a permanent sales point for Rebung MADANI, fresh bamboo shoots harvested by villagers and Orang Asli. Over 11,493 jars of bamboo shoots have been sold under the 'Produk Tol Lama Slim River' brand, recently showcased in Singapore. 'We sold 200 jars in Singapore, proving demand extends beyond Malaysia,' he said, emphasising the site's strategic location for distribution. The agrobazaar also supports the Santuni MADANI Programme, enhancing rural economic potential through community engagement. This initiative aligns with Agro MADANI's goals of market stability, fair pricing, and inclusive participation in agriculture. - Bernama

Historic Slim River Toll Plaza Transformed Into Agrobazaar Hub
TANJONG MALIM, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The historic site of the old Slim River toll plaza has been given a new lease of life as Medan Agrobazaar Tol Lama, aimed at becoming a key collection and marketing hub for agricultural produce from the Muallim district and surrounding areas. Since it began operating in February, the agrobazaar has recorded sales worth RM25,700, driven by a variety of fresh produce and agro-based food products sold at the site. Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli said the location now hosts four local entrepreneurs who sell various products daily. 'We want to make this a central collection hub for agricultural produce from Muallim — whether from Batang Padang or Hulu Bernam — to be marketed to the north and south of the country,' he said at a press conference after officially launching Medan Agrobazaar Tol Lama in Slim River here today. Its main products include fresh fruits, young coconuts, fruit juices and a variety of agri-based food industry products (IMAT) produced by local entrepreneurs. Also present were Behrang state assemblyman Salina Samsudin, FAMA director-general Abd Rashid Bahri and Muallim District Officer Mohd Sabli Bakri. Aminuddin said the agrobazaar has also become the permanent sales point for Rebung MADANI — fresh bamboo shoots harvested by local villagers and Orang Asli, a product now closely associated with Slim River. Since its introduction, 11,493 jars of bamboo shoots have been marketed under the "Produk Tol Lama Slim River" brand, which was recently introduced internationally at the Malaysia Fest Expo in Singapore. 'We brought 200 jars and they were sold out, which means there's demand not only locally but also from Singapore. We hope this centre becomes a key distribution hub, taking advantage of its strategic location along the country's main route,' he said.

FGV receives unconditional takeover offer from Felda at RM1.30 per share
KUALA LUMPUR: FGV Holdings Bhd (FGV) has received an unconditional voluntary takeover offer from the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), which seeks to acquire all remaining shares in the company not already under its control. In a notice issued by Maybank Investment Bank Bhd on behalf of Felda, the offer proposes a cash consideration of RM1.30 per share for all outstanding ordinary shares of FGV not currently held by Felda. As of May 20, 2025, FGV's total issued share capital stood at RM7.02 billion, comprising 3.64 billion ordinary shares and one special share held by the Minister of Finance (Incorporated). Felda currently owns 69.50 per cent of FGV's equity, amounting to 2.53 billion shares. With this new offer, Felda and its parties acting in concert (PACS) collectively hold a controlling stake of 86.93 per cent in the plantation and agribusiness giant. The PACS include Felda's wholly owned subsidiary, Felda Asset Holdings Company Sdn Bhd, together with the Pahang state government. Other PACs include Koperasi Kakitangan Felda Malaysia Bhd, whose board consists of Felda management, as well as Sulong Jamil Mohamed Shariff and his wife, Salina Samsudin. The offer would be formally presented to shareholders via an offer document, which outlines the terms, conditions, and acceptance procedures. "This document, along with the relevant forms, will be dispatched once the Securities Commission confirms that it has no further comments on its contents,' it said. The move signals Felda's continued efforts to consolidate control over FGV, following previous strategic manoeuvres to increase its stake in the company. The offer by Felda to acquire remaining shares in FGV would remain open for acceptance for a minimum of 21 days from the posting date, with a closing time of 5 pm. The offer period may be extended at Felda's discretion, with any changes to the closing date to be announced by Maybank Investment Bank at least two days in advance. The offer may only be withdrawn with written consent from the Securities Commission, in which case all obligations under the offer would be voided. - Bernama

Bailey bridge to temporarily replace collapsed Sg Liat Bridge by April 30
SUNGKAI: The Bailey bridge, which will temporarily replace the collapsed Sungai Liat Bridge, is expected to be operational by April 30, said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan. He said the road leading to the bridge must first be repaired, while the construction of the 46-metre-long bridge will commence tomorrow and is expected to be completed by April 27. 'We hope it can be completed as scheduled, as residents in the vicinity use this route daily,' he said after visiting the collapse site at Felda Sungai Klah. Also present was Behrang assemblyman Salina Samsudin. On April 20, the Sungai Liat Bridge collapsed, cutting off access to Felda Residence Hot Spring, Kampung Tisong and the Buyong Mas Sanctuary Campsite. The collapse left 136 individuals stranded, including 81 students from a local polytechnic living in the area. Yesterday, state executive councillor for Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, announced that the collapsed bridge will be temporarily replaced with a Bailey bridge. Meanwhile, Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan said the permanent bridge at the site is estimated to cost around RM3 million. Salina hoped the bridge could be completed as scheduled, as residents in the affected areas currently have to use an alternative route to reach Sungkai town. 'The 1.7-kilometre detour passes through an oil palm plantation and can only be used by those with four-wheel drive vehicles,' she said.
