A driver who crashed into a teenage girl before urinating on his van as she lay in the road has been disqualified from driving for 17 Thompson, 45, hit the 14-year-old girl in Meadow Lane, Westbury on 13 March. The girl's injuries were not of Norden in Bradford-on-Avon, blew over the limit at the scene but insisted he was not the driver until he was later presented with CCTV footage showing him getting out of the driver's pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath specimen, careless driving and driving without an MOT in June and was sentenced at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. The court heard that after police arrived at the scene, another man claimed to have been then said he was desperate to go to the toilet and, despite the injured teen being just metres away, urinated against the passenger side of his men were arrested and the court was told Thompson twice failed to provide a breath specimen for analysis while in police custody. No further action was taken against the second man. 'Callous' Sgt Neil Bott, from Wiltshire Police, described the incident as incredibly traumatic for the victim and her mother, who was at the scene."Any collision with a vehicle can be traumatic, but to then have the driver be so incredibly callous and disrespectful by urinating in front of the victim while she was lying injured is hard to believe," he added."Thompson then tried to protest his innocence in custody before being shown clear footage that he had been driving the van." During his sentencing hearing, Thompson was ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £ must also complete a 60-day alcohol abstinence requirement and up to eight days of was told his 17-month driving disqualification would be reduced by 17 weeks if he completed a driving course.

A 49-year-old man has been charged in connection with multiple attacks that occurred on the same dayThomas Lawton, of High Street, Malmesbury, Wiltshire, has been charged with sexual assault, common assault, two counts of threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place and two counts of criminal damage to property valued under £5,000, police incidents were reported on Bristol Street and Bremilham Road in Malmesbury on Saturday Lawton has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Wiltshire Police said: "We would like to thank the public for their support while this investigation was carried out."

Journalist, author, sailor, musician and water colour artist, John Glasspool was a remarkable man. A member of Hill Head Sailing Club for more than 50 years and a Daily Echo writer for several years, he has died at his Winchester care home, aged 93. John, a long term resident of Titchfield, was born in Southampton in 1932 and evacuated to Wimborne during the war. But he was a small-boat yachtsman at heart and crewed frequently on yachts of all types. Following National Service at The British Military Hospital in Hanover just five years after the end of World War II, John joined a gas company for a short time before becoming a general journalist at Salisbury Magistrates Court. He joined the Southampton Evening Echo in 1955, before moving to The Portsmouth Evening News as the sailing correspondent three years later. After a short spell in Wimbledon, he returned to Southampton to join the features team, contributing a weekly yachting column and writing under the pseudonym Tom Bargate. John wrote four books – two editions of Open Book Cruising, Boats of the Longshoremen and Solent Shores – a history of the Solent Shores from Bembridge to the Needles on the IOW and Hurst Castle to Chichester. (Image: Family collection) John was married to Liz for twenty years from 1971and then to Roma, until she died in 1997. Known for his kindness and generosity, John had many interests, from outdoor adventures to cultural pursuits, all approached with his trademark enthusiasm and dedication. Throughout his life, John owned a succession of sailing boats. He joined Hill Head Sailing Club in 1971 and it became his favourite haunt. His knowledge of wooden boat repair and maintenance was unmatched and he once navigated to shore through thick fog just by shouting across and fixing his position. John often sailed to the IOW with a friend, spending ten minutes on shore before returning to Hill Head. They also often sailed to South East Bramble and Hill Head buoy. John's funeral will take place at Wessex Vale Crematorium on Tuesday February 25 at 3pm. Donations in his memory should be sent to social care charity the Brendoncare Foundation care of AH Freemantle funeral directors in Titchfield.
