Teen pleads guilty to raping varsity student, extorting her boyfriend

PETALING JAYA : A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty in the sessions and magistrates' courts today to raping a student from a university in Muar, Johor, and extorting her boyfriend on July 7.
He pleaded guilty to the charges under Sections 376(1) and 384 of the Penal Code, Berita Harian reported.
However, his friend Alif Hakim Hamil, 19, who was also charged with the same crime, pleaded not guilty to both charges.
According to the first charge read out in the sessions court, the duo allegedly raped the 20-year-old student in an oil palm plantation between 9pm and 11.30pm on July 7.
The charge under Section 376(1) for rape provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and a whipping.
The prosecution was managed by deputy public prosecutor Diyana Najihah Fauzi while Alif was represented by lawyer Salmi Hamdan Sabran.
Sessions court judge Nariman Badruddin set Aug 14 for the handover of documents and allowed bail of RM8,000 for Alif, on the condition that he report to a police station once a month and refrain from disturbing the witnesses until the disposal of the case.
In the magistrates' court, they were charged with extorting the girl's 21-year-old boyfriend for RM250 in cash at the same time, date and place.
The charge under Section 384 provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any two of the punishments.
Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar set Sept 28 for the submission of the social welfare department's report on the 17-year-old, and the handover of documents for Alif.
The court allowed the 17-year-old bail of RM3,000 for both charges, while Alif was released on bail of RM2,000 for the extortion charge.
The prosecution was managed by deputy public prosecutors Amirah Sapian and Nur Ameerah Allaudeen.
