Mavericks make intriguing announcement about next season
The Dallas Mavericks have issued an interesting announcement about their impending 2025-26 season. Per The Stein Line's Marc Stein, the Mavericks have unveiled their full, four-game preseason schedule. As befits the preseason, multiple games will transpire in non-NBA arenas. The action will tip off against the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday, October 6, at 7:30 p.m. CT. The action will take place at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, 36 miles away from Dallas' normal homecourt, American Airlines Arena. Next up for the Mavericks, after a five-day layoff, will be a clash with the Charlotte Hornets at American Airlines Center on October 11. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dallas will travel for its last two preseason games — an October 13 meeting with the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake, scheduled for 8 p.m. CT, and an October 15 encounter with ex-Maverick Luka Doncic's Los Angeles Lakers at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. That L.A. meeting will tip off at 9 p.m. CT. Dallas also revealed that it will hold its training camp in Vancouver this season, Simon Fraser University, from September 30-October 4. The Mavericks offloaded Doncic, plus veteran bigs Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, for a package led by 10-time All-Star center/power forward Anthony Davis (who's six years older than Doncic and lacks his upside), shooting guard Max Christie, and a single future first-round pick in 2029. Sans the superstar who had brought them to the NBA Finals just the season prior, the Lakers fell in disarray. Davis and fellow aging All-Star Kyrie Irving both got hurt soon after the trade. Irving's injury was worse — he tore his ACL, and could miss a major chunk of 2025-26. The Mavericks, saddled with a mismatched roster that had been designed for Doncic and Irving, fell into the lottery. But that's when their luck shifted. Dallas rocketed up the draft lottery, snaring the rights to the No. 1 pick, which the team used on Duke superstar forward Cooper Flagg. The 18-year-old's addition will totally reset the Mavericks' upside long-term, even if his short-term fit with the old All-Stars may not be particularly smooth. Diogo Goncalves' late goal sends RSL past depleted Timbers
(Photo credit: Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images) Diogo Goncalves scored in the 83rd minute to lift Real Salt Lake to a 1-0 victory over the Portland Timbers on Wednesday night. Goncalves' third goal of the season and second in the last three matches helped Salt Lake (8-10-4, 28 points) win its third straight and extend its unbeaten run to five matches. Rafa Cabral needed to make just one save to keep his and RSL's sixth clean sheet of the campaign while dealing the Timbers their first home loss since a 4-1 defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps on opening weekend in late February. Portland (9-7-6, 33 points) struggled to create chances on a night when team assists leader David Da Costa was a pregame scratch due to groin tightness. The Timbers came into Wednesday's fixture having already lost 2024 leading scorer Jonathan Rodriguez to a season-ending knee surgery, and with 2025 top producer Antony still out with a hamstring issue. Despite three stops from Maxime Crepeau, the Timbers have now lost three of their last four, and they suffered their first home defeat to RSL since 2017. While chances were sparse throughout the encounter, Salt Lake had the better ones and deserved their lead when Goncalves finally broke through. The Portuguese attacker helped create the chance himself, playing a pass to Ariath Piol just above the top of the penalty box from the right, then continuing his run into the penalty area to receive the return pass. From there, he drove a low, hard finish past Crepeau just two games after he scored at home in RSL's 3-2 win over St. Louis City on July 5. It was the culmination of a string of RSL chances. William Agada had the best one in the first half in the 23rd minute, and probably should've tested Crepeau more severely with another chance two minutes into the second. Then, in the 76th minute, Goncalves' previous low effort forced Crepeau into his best stop of the night, diving low and to his left. Diego Luna knocked in the rebound but was clearly offside.

Spurs fans are buzzing after thrilling finish to Summer League game vs. Warriors
The post Spurs fans are buzzing after thrilling finish to Summer League game vs. Warriors appeared first on ClutchPoints. NBA fans continue to be spoiled; just two weeks after the final buzzer had sounded to mark the end of the 2025 NBA Finals, there is plenty of action to be had already — with the Summer League kicking off in Salt Lake and in California. And on Sunday, the California Classic brought fans a barnburner, with the San Antonio Spurs overcoming the Golden State Warriors, 90-88, in what was quite an exhilarating finish to the ballgame. Advertisement The Spurs may not have had Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant active, but that did not make the game any less exciting. After all, the Warriors' Summer Leaguers gave it their all. Warriors guard Will Richard, in particular, looked as though he was going to shoot Golden State into the victory after he drained a triple to cut the Spurs' lead to just one with around 30 seconds left in the contest. However, Richard could not make it two triples in a row, with his attempt at a game-winning three at the buzzer clanking off the front iron of the rim, sealing the Spurs' victory. The Spurs' blue-chip prospects may not have played, but that only opened up the opportunity for David Jones-Garcia, a Memphis alum, to do the bulk of the heavy lifting for San Antonio. He finished with 25 points on an extremely efficient 9-14 shooting night from the field. He made four of his seven three-point attempts, and even though he turned the ball over six times, he flashed quite the three-level scoring game. Advertisement Fans celebrated this Spurs win on X, with many giving props to Jones-Garcia for his excellent performance. 'Ok who the heck is David Jones-Garcia ? ! ! ! 😳 I am looking and I am liking !!! I'm already a believer, sign him Wright, sign him!' @TonyTexas47 wrote. 'Hell yeah that David jones-Garcia kid looks real good,' @AuwaerterD9040 added. Spurs to find their next undrafted gem? Brett Davis-Imagn Images The Spurs, over the past 30 or s0 years, have made it a habit to develop an undrafted gem into a quality role player in the NBA. Bruce Bowen might be the best example of this. Avery Johnson was a key contributor on the 1999 Spurs squad that won the NBA Finals. Jonathon Simmons was quite the player for the Spurs for a while. And in today's roster, Julian Champagnie has developed into one of the best role players in the league, a true 3-and-D player who can catch fire from deep rather quickly. Advertisement Perhaps Jones-Garcia would be the next in a long line of undrafted Spurs gems.
