Reports: National champion Florida sets White House visit
May 18 - NCAA Tournament champion Florida will celebrate its national title Wednesday at the White House, multiple outlets reported Sunday. The Florida-centered Swamp247 reported that head coach Todd Golden and the rest of his staff are expected to visit the White House along with the majority of the players. It was unclear whether Denzel Aberdeen, who has transferred to Kentucky, will make the trip to Washington, D.C. Sam Alexis, a transfer to Indiana, is listed as part of the traveling party, per Swamp247. The Gators won the school's third national championship on April 7, defeating Houston 65-63 in San Antonio. Golden said the White House visit will be welcome. "I've been told we're going to the White House, so I'm pretty excited about that," Golden said April 12. "We'll have to get everybody back together to be able to go do that." After winning the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and 2007, the Gators met with former President George W. Bush in back-to-back years. --Field Level Media

Florida basketball transfer Sam Alexis commits to Indiana after entering NCAA portal
Florida basketball transfer Sam Alexis commits to Indiana after entering NCAA portal Florida basketball transfer forward Sam Alexis has committed to the Indiana Hoosiers, according to a report from Joe Tipton of On3. Alexis, who entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 18, appeared in 24 games for the Gators during their national championship run last season. He served as a depth piece off the bench, averaging 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds. A native of Apopka, Alexis' role in Todd Golden's system was limited due to the Gators' increasingly crowded front-court rotation, despite showing flashes of potential. Prior to Florida, Alexis spent his first two collegiate seasons at Chattanooga, where he totaled 516 points and 287 rebounds. Unfortunately, due to an ankle injury, Alexis didn't see a lot of playing time last season with the Gators. The 6-foot-8-inch forward missed about a month and a half that spanned from February to March and his last appearance was a minute logged against the Maryland Terrapins in the Sweet 16. Alexis now heads to Bloomington, where he will look for an expanded role under Indiana's new head coach Darian DeVries. His rebounding and defensive instincts could fit well in Indiana's physical Big Ten style. Florida, meanwhile, continues to reshape its roster after a championship season. The Gators recently secured the return of forward Thomas Haugh for 2025-26 and added top recruits and portal talent to keep the program competitive in the SEC. Alexis' departure opens another spot for Florida as Golden looks to fine-tune his rotation in hopes of a title defense. Forward from national champs transfers to Indiana basketball, helping fill a need
The Hoosiers landed a forward for their second commitment of the day Thursday. Indiana basketball has added an interior presence it needed as Sam Alexis will transfer from Florida. Alexis is 6 foot 8, 240 pounds and played just 11.9 minutes per game last season with 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds for the national champs. But he averaged 10.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 2023-24 at Chattanooga, where he started 32 of 33 games as a sophomore and doubled his production and minutes from his freshman year. It's a position of need for the Hoosiers, who are thin in the frontcourt of their roster rebuild. Alexis is the second commitment Darian DeVries landed Thursday. The first was from guard Nick Dorn, a 3-point shooter from Elon. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle. Alexis becomes one of the largest presences for IU. Only Reed Bailey, a 6-10 floor-spacing forward from Davidson, is taller. But Alexis is a more traditional forward who operates inside the 3-point line. He's just a 28.6% 3-point shooter but is 59.1% on 2-pointers, fitting a mold for past DeVries teams. Alexis becomes the 10th player the Hoosiers have committed for the 2025-26 season, not counting Luke Goode who is pursuing an extra year of eligibility. Alexis, from Apopka, Florida, was not rated in the Class of 2022, per 247Sports, and only had offers from Binghamton, Stetson, New Mexico State and Towson before choosing the Mocs.

Florida basketball's backup forward Sam Alexis returns to NCAA transfer portal
Florida basketball's backup forward Sam Alexis returns to NCAA transfer portal The 2025 men's basketball national champion Florida Gators saw yet another departure from the program on Friday with forward Sam Alexis announcing his entrance into the NCAA transfer portal. A year after arriving through the same route, it looks like he will seek greener pastures ahead of the 2025-26 schedule. "Dear Gator Nation," Alexis' announcement on Instagram begins. "First off, I want to thank the man above for blessing me and putting me in the position I'm in today. My journey at Florida hasn't been easy, I've faced a lot of adversity but every challenge has helped me grow into a better basketball player and a better man. "I want to thank my teammate and the coaching staff for believing in me and giving me the highest level. Winning a national championship here will always be one of the greatest moments of my life. "After praying on it and having deep conversations with the people I trust most, I've decided to enter the transfer portal." Sam Alexis' arrival at Florida via transfer portal Alexis landed in Gainesville following his first two collegiate campaigns with the UT-Chattanooga Mocs, where his sophomore numbers caught the eye of Todd Golden and his staff. He came to UF after starting 32 of UTC's 33 games, averaging 10.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while leading the Southern Conference with a 2.1 clip when it came to blocked shots. The forward out of Apopka, Florida, earned All-Southern Conference and All-Defensive Team honors with Chattanooga after the 2023-24 campaign. Sam Alexis' stats with the Gators However, his playing time under Golden was limited by both his backup role and an ankle injury that kept him mostly benched during the late-season tournament run. Alexis played in 24 games with zero starts, going down with his foot affliction during the win at the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Feb. 11; he would appear in just one other game against the Maryland Terrapins in the NCAA Tournament, logging one minute of playing time. Over the course of those 24 games played, Alexis averaged 4.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 11.9 minutes per game played on average. He shot 46.5% (41-for-101) from the floor overall while draining four of his 20 attempts from beyond the arc; at the charity stripe, he could only muster a 53.8% clip on 14-for-24 shooting. On the glass, his numbers were split between 1.5 offensive rebounds against 1.9 defensive rebounds per game, as he was a solid contributor to Florida's premier frontcourt. Alexis also dished out nine assists and grabbed seven steals for the Gators last season.
