Cincinnati Reds activate Hunter Greene
The Cincinnati Reds made official on Wednesday afternoon what we'd known already for days: Hunter Greene is officially back. Cincinnati activated their ace off the 15-day IL ahead of Wednesday's series finale, optioning RHP Sam Benschoter to AAA Louisville to make way on the active roster. The team announced the move on Twitter. The decision to option Benschoter was the obvious one given the rest of the arm talent on the active roster, but the move itself confirms a pending conundrum of what they'll do with all their starting options. Chase Burns, of course, is running up against a semi-flexible innings limit. The rookie has tossed 100.1 IP across all professional levels so far in 2025, and that's after throwing just 100.0 IP with Wake Forest in 2024 prior to being drafted by the Reds with the #2 overall pick. The Reds haven't yet moved him from the rotation completely, but how they juggle where he's on the mound (and how often) now becomes the tricky part. A similar story (with different motives) is now in play for Nick Martinez, who is still scheduled to start for Cincinnati on Friday in their critical series opener against the red-hot Milwaukee Brewers. He can obviously pitch at anywhere, anytime in any role, and that flexibility is what Terry Francona and Nick Krall want to lean on as every inning becomes critical in the upcoming playoff chase. So, when Nick Lodolo comes back from his blister issue (in hopefully short order), we'll likely see that domino fall, too. First pitch in Greene's return is set for an odd 5:10 PM ET start. How the Reds will line up behind him is posted for y'all below.

The lefty from Fair Haven (MI) has spent a lot of time in the MLB from 2020 on, spending time with the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees. The Twins will be his sixth MLB team. His MLB career has consisted of 131 games and 115.2 innings, where Misiewicz has a 4.67 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP and 114 strikeouts. Former Spartan RHP called up to major league roster by Cincinnati Reds
Michigan State baseball has a plethora of it's former players scattered around Minor League Baseball, looking for their chance to get up to the big leagues. On Tuesday, one former Spartan saw that dream become a reality. Sam Benschoter has been called up to the major league roster by the Cincinnati Reds. He has been called up as aid to the bullpen for the Reds. A 6-foot-3 right handed pitcher, Benschoter was a standout for the Spartans from 2017-2021, before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Reds organization. Since, he has been progressing up the ranks with the organization from rookie ball all the way up to AAA. This year, Benschoter has been playing with the Reds AAA-affiliate, the Louisville Bats, where he has pitched well in 21 appearances. The Reds are currently in Boston for a three game series against the Red Sox, and tonight's game will be at 7:10 p.m. Look for the former Spartans potential debut out of the bullpen.
