Senior 1B Sam Busch named Spartan baseball's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient
Senior 1B Sam Busch named Spartan baseball's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient Michigan State baseball made the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since 2023, having a successful season in regards to team success, earning several postseason awards. Joseph Dzierwa was named as the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, as well as being named to the Big Ten's first team All-Big Ten. Following that announcement, Ryan McKay was named to the Big Ten's second team. Now, a third Spartan, senior infielder Sam Busch was recognized by the Big Ten. Busch was named as the Big Ten's Sportsmanship Award recipient. The senior co-captain was given the award during the Big Ten's award reveal. In the 2025 season, Busch had a .289 batting average to go along with a team high 15 home runs. He had a .383 on base percentage to go along with a .588 slugging percentage. Michigan State baseball upsets No. 25 USC on the road Friday night Michigan State is on the road to face off against No. 25 USC in a three game series in California. The Spartans, with only six Big Ten games left on the schedule, are playing for their Big Ten Tournament lives, needing a good final stretch of the season if they want to play in Omaha. Michigan State is off to a good start in that regard, opening their three-game series with the Trojans, and the inaugural matchup with USC, with a 5-0 victory. Joseph Dzierwa was a menace once again on the mound, throwing seven innings and striking out eight, while only giving up two hits and not walking a batter. On the offensive side of the ball, the Spartans were led by Sam Busch, who hit two home runs and a double in a three-for-five effort. His efforts were aided by Noah Bright, who went two-for-three in the game. Michigan State will have a chance to win the series against USC on Saturday when the two teams face off again at 5 p.m. ET. It was a rough Friday in East Lansing for the Michigan State baseball Big Ten opener against Illinois, with the Fighting Illini sweeping a double header. On Saturday, the two conference opponents finished their weekend series. Michigan State dominated Saturday's matchup with Illinois, salvaging the series for themselves in a 14-4 run rule victory in eight innings. It is the first win over Illinois since 2017. MSU now improves to 17-10 (4-5 B1G) on the season. Advertisement Leading the way for Michigan State offensively was Sam Busch who finished the game 4-for-5 with 5 RBIs in the contest. JT Sokolove and Ryan McKay both went 3-for-5 in the game, while Will Shannon was 2-for-4. Up next for Michigan State is the 2025 Crosstown Showdown against the Lansing Lugnuts on Tuesday at Jackson Field in Lansing. Big second inning leads Notre Dame baseball past Michigan State
Michigan State baseball made the trip from East Lansing to South Bend on Wednesday to face off with Notre Dame in a midweek affair. Unfortunately for the Spartans, the fell to the Fighting Irish in the matchup, 9-6. The opportunity for a big resume boosting win was there, but a huge second inning was too much for MSU to overcome. Notre Dame plated all nine of their runs in the second frame, and despite their best efforts, MSU could now claw back into the game. Will Shannon led the way offensively for the Spartans with a 2-for-5 performance, while Sam Busch had a couple of RBIs. The Spartans had seven pitchers take the mound in the game, while Notre Dame had eight. Ryan Szczepaniak got the loss during Wednesday's efforts.
