Dublin GAA appoint Ger Brennan as new senior football manager after he departs Louth

GER BRENNAN HAS been appointed as the new Dublin senior football manager. The county board confirmed the news today that the All-Ireland winning player will take charge on a three-year term. Brennan guided Louth to Leinster senior title success this year, a history-making win over Meath in the final in May securing the crown for the county for the first time in 68 years. The St Vincent's clubman won All-Ireland senior titles with Dublin as a player under Pat Gilroy in 2011 and Jim Gavin in 2013. Farrell had been in charge for six seasons, guiding the side to Sam Maguire success in 2020 and 2023. Brennan stepped down as Louth boss on 1 July, having been at the helm for two seasons. Mayo GAA expresses sympathy at passing of former player Frank Fleming (95)

A native of Claremorris, Mr Fleming represented Mayo in the 1950s, making his debut for the Mayo juniors in 1951 – the year Mayo last captured the Sam Maguire trophy – before making his senior intercounty debut in 1952. He played club football for Claremorris and the Civil Service Club in Dublin after settling in Clontarf, where he spent most of his life. He represented Mayo in the National League, Connacht Football Championship and in an All-Ireland semi-final replay against Dublin in 1955. Mr Fleming was also an active member of the Mayo Association in Dublin. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Kay and his brother John. He is survived by his children Máire, Gabriel, David, Neil and Orla, his daughters-in-law Maitland, Carol and Rhona, son-in-law Friedrich, grandchildren Andrew, Lois, Alex, Adam, Mark, Lucian, Oisín, Cian and Serena, sisters Bridie and Ann, extended family, relatives and neighbours. His funeral took place on Friday (August 8) at St Anthony's Church, Clontarf, Dublin.

RTE star Daithi O Se couldn't hide his excitement as he joined thousands of fans in Croke Park to watch his beloved county Kerry lift the Sam Maguire Cup once again. After the game, Daithi posted a smiling snap from the stands while Kerry captain Gavin White gave his winning speech. READ MORE ON DAITHI O SE And the celebrations didn't end there as the TV host beamed in a snap outside a packed pub as fans celebrated the Kingdom's big win. And the win will mean even more for Daithi after he had engaged in some on radio with Donegal native Daniel O'Donnell prior to the final. Soft-spoken Donegal singer bragged about his beloved county winning the football final with Kerry TV star Daithi slagging: "He'd talk a pig into a ham sandwich. " The unlikely duo called in to the Oliver Callan Show on most read in the irish sun Wee Daniel fired the opening shot in the head to head as he boasted that the Sam Maguire trophy "has the bag packed" and will be heading back to Donegal. The country music sensation will play a series of shows in Killarney's INEC next month and joked that he won't be able to show his face in Kerry if Donegal lose after all his bragging. Daniel O'Donnell and Daithi O Se have hilarious argument He said: "I have to go to the Kingdom at the end of August because we've shows in Killarney and I do not want to be introduced to Sam Maguire as a Kerry resident so it is all or nothing. "I have to lay it down to Jim and the team for my sake if nobody else's they have to take Sam back to Donegal." He joked: "I might cancel the INEC." GAA-S ROW Daithi said: "They've a new song written now for Daniel when he comes down to Killarney to the INEC and it's called Jimmy's scratching a**es." The light hearted segment ended with Daniel O'Donnell hoping that the All-Ireland final would live up to the game with both teams leaving it all on the pitch. He said: "All joking aside. My hope is that both teams come out and leave everything on the pitch in Croke Park and whoever wins that the other team is proud of what they did. "I think if they both come out and play the way they can play it will be the game of all games and that's what I hope for now seriously. "Whatever team has to go home without Sam that they are happy that they did their best."
