Watch: Student visa crackdown: Do international students matter to the U.S.?

The U.S.'s move to pause all new student visa interviews is just the latest in a series of moves by the Trump administration targeting international students and universities. Just a few days ago, the administration tried to stop Harvard from enrolling international students. Before that, several U.S. universities were accused of fostering anti-Semitism. And earlier this year, thousands of student visas were revoked with no warning. Students from India and China make up the biggest share of international enrollments, especially in STEM fields. In 2023, thousands earned research doctorates here, fueling American science and technology. So while the administration pushes for tighter controls, it may end up shutting out the very people who drive American research, science, and entrepreneurship. In this video, we use data to understand how these decisions could affect international students — and the U.S. itself. Watch: Why some States are upset with the Centre over revenue sharing: Part 1

Why some States are upset with the Centre over revenue sharing: Part 1 Almost every State — including those ruled by the BJP — is calling for a change in the current revenue-sharing formula with the Central government. To understand this growing demand, it's crucial to first unpack how the Centre earns revenue, what constitutes the 'divisible pool,' and why many States view the existing formula as inequitable — a concern that has only deepened in the post-pandemic years. In the first part of this three-part series, The Hindu Data Team simplifies the complexities of fiscal federalism using a ₹100 note to illustrate how funds are shared. The Fifteenth Finance Commission had recommended that 41% of the divisible pool be allocated to States. Now, the Sixteenth Finance Commission is visiting all States to determine the new revenue-sharing formula for the next five years. This series delves into the roots of the Centre-State fiscal debate and explores the road ahead. Watch: U.S. denied half a million student visas in two years

International students, especially Indians, in the United States are facing an unprecedented crisis. Over 4,000 international students have received visa revocation notices, and an analysis by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) reveals that half of them are Indians. At the same time, approvals for Indian student visas have dropped sharply, with a 30% decline recorded in February compared to the year-ago period. In this episode, we use data to compare visa denials across countries and examine the increasing pressure on Indian students in the U.S. Read more: U.S. visas issued to Indian students decline by 30% in Trump's first month of presidency Presentation and editing: Sambavi Parthasarathy Scripting and data support: Vignesh Radhakrishnan Videography: Shivaraj S
