Lucknow: To address malnutrition among young children, state govt will launch
Chief Minister's Nutrition Scheme
, under which nutritious morning snacks will be provided to children aged between 3 and 6 years.
CM
Yogi Adityanath
, directed senior officials of department of child development and nutrition on Saturday to establish
Take Home Ration units
in all 75 districts of the state. He noted that while there were significant improvements in severe acute malnutrition (SAM) levels through implementation of the Sambhav Scheme, there remained a need for further intervention to support the programme.
To address shortfalls, Yogi said the department should draw up a plan to provide nutritious morning snacks to all children aged 3 to 6 years, as per which, anganwadi centres will ensure availability of milk, fruits and nutritious food as morning snacks for children. The scheme, the CM said, would be incorporated into the soon-to-be-launched
Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Zero Poverty Mission
. Yogi said there was need for continuous monitoring of nutritional parameters among children, such as stunting, low weight and wasting, to ensure integrated efforts by local administration, and departments of health and women and child development. He further said the Mukhyamantri Nirashrit Govansh Sahyog Yojana could also be connected to the programme and families without livestock could be provided with cows to improve the family's nutritional level through the easy availability of milk.
The CM also focused on a multi-dimensional strategy to tackle effectively malnutrition in the state, with a need for transparency, quality of food, and participation. At present, 204 units to supply take-home rations to 288 projects are functional in 43 districts. These need to be expanded to all districts, the CM said, adding the entire process of manufacturing, packaging and distribution of take-home rations should be completely transparent and of high quality.
