QFZ, Samsung C&T to launch green, digital infra projects
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) and Samsung C&T Corporation signed a landmark strategic agreement, reaffirming their long-term partnership on a series of high-impact, sustainability-driven, and innovation-led projects within Qatar's Free Zones. The agreement ushers in a new phase of execution across green and sustainable investments in key sectors in the State of Qatar and the region. The agreement signing was witnessed by Minister of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of Qatar Free Zones Authority HE Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani and Ambassador of Korea to Qatar HE Yun Hyunsoo. The agreement was signed by Qatar Free Zones Authority CEO Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani and Samsung C&T Corporation CEO President and CEO Se Chul Oh at the Business Innovation Park in Ras Bufontas Free Zone on the sidelines of his visit and participation at Qatar Economic Forum (QEF) 2025. The signing was also attended by senior dignitaries from Qatari government entities, high-ranking officials from both parties, and representatives from public and private sector stakeholders. The event was followed by a reception celebrating the two parties' shared ambition to shape the future of sustainable investment in Qatar and the wider region. Under the agreement, QFZ and Samsung C&T will collaborate on five transformative projects, which include a Competency Center in Solar Technologies, a 285 MW ground solar farm, an off-grid rooftop solar energy solutions, a low-carbon bioproducts plant and a cutting-edge digital infrastructure project. These projects reflect the shared commitment of both parties to advancing climate-conscious development while delivering long-term economic value through localisation, job creation, and technology transfer. The projects are expected to generate significant employment opportunities across engineering, clean technology, and data services. The solar competency center will serve as a distribution hub and launchpad for the region's most ambitious solar initiatives, backed by international engineering expertise. Meanwhile, the green energy initiatives, including the solar farm and rooftop systems, will power QFZ's investor ecosystem and contribute to Qatar's growing reputation as a regional sustainability leader. The low-carbon plant will produce next-generation bioproducts, while the advanced digital infrastructure project will support the digital transformation of businesses in Qatar and across the region. NPWPC receives strong response for Misfah and Duqm power plants
A total of twelve major utility developers have submitted their Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) for consideration including: Samsung C&T Corporation, Korea Western Power, Marubeni Corporation, Sumitomo, Reliance Power, Sembcorp Utilities, and Shenzhen Energy Group. These firms bring experience in developing large-scale power infrastructure and represent a strong vote of confidence in Oman's energy sector. Key regional companies that have entered the race include Acwa Power Company, Nebras Power, Al Ghanim International, Etihad Water and Electricity Company (EtihadWE), and Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company—highlighting the strategic importance of these projects within the GCC. According to NPWPC, the combined scope of the projects includes the development of two combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plants, with a total installed capacity of 2,400MW. Both plants will be developed under Oman's Independent Power Project (IPP) model, which promotes private sector participation through competitive procurement and long-term power purchase agreements. The Misfah IPP is expected to support the high energy demands of the capital region, while the Duqm IPP is aligned with the government's broader plan to transform the Duqm Special Economic Zone into a major industrial and logistical hub. With the submission phase completed, Nama will proceed with the evaluation and shortlisting of qualified bidders, moving toward the next phase of project development and eventual financial close.

Samsung, ACWA in race for 2,400MW Oman power project
Oman's Nama Power & Water Procurement Company has announced that it has received bids from 12 major utility project developers for two of its key projects - Misfah IPP within Muscat Governorate and Duqm IPP in Al Wusta area. Those who submitted the statement of qualifications (SOQS) for the project are: global players including Samsung C&T Corporation; Korea Western Power; Marubeni Corporation; Sumitomo; Reliance Power; Sembcorp Utilities and Shenzhen Energy Group, said Nama in a statement. The key regional players in the race are Acwa Power Company; Nebras Power; Al Ghanim International as well as Etihad Water and Electricity Company and Al Jomaih Energy & Water Company. According to Nama, two combined cycle gas turbines power plants with a total capacity of 2,400 MW will be developed as part of the project. Nesma JV to deliver King Salman International Airport package
Nesma & Partners, the leading contractor in Saudi Arabia, has signed an agreement with Samsung C&T Corporation Saudi Arabia and Al Ayuni Limak Contracting to form a fully integrated, unincorporated joint venture aimed at delivering key project packages for the transformative King Salman International Airport in Riyadh. As one of the kingdom's most ambitious infrastructure projects, the airport will set new benchmarks in modern architecture, sustainability, and global connectivity, reinforcing Saudi Arabia's presence on the international stage. On the project, Nesma & Partners said bringing together industry-leading expertise, the joint venture will leverage its industry-leading expertise in construction and engineering, combining it with Samsung C&T's global experience in large-scale infrastructure and Al-Ayuni Limak's extensive track record in both Saudi Arabian and international markets, specifically airports industry.
