Record 1,261 Ph.D. degrees to be awarded at Osmania's 84th convocation
A record of 1,261 Ph.D. degrees will be given at the 84th convocation ceremony of Osmania University to be held on August 19.
The ceremony is noteworthy as the university will present Governor's Gold Medal for best Ph.D thesis in English by a Scheduled Tribe student, an initiative of the university Chancellor and Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, to promote tribal scholarship.
The university also instituted the Professor Samudrala Satyanarayana Murthy Memorial Gold Medal in MBA Finance.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor Kumar Molugaram said that the previous convocation saw 979 Ph.D. degrees awarded. This year, they will also give away gold medals to 121 meritorious students for 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years.
Mr. Molugaram informed that the university will confer the 50th honorary doctorate upon Director, Indian Space Research Organisation, V. Narayanan, for his invaluable contributions to the country's space programme. Mr. Narayanan will also deliver the convocation address.
Registrar G. Naresh Reddy, Controller of Examinations K. Shashikanth, and other senior officials were present during the address.
