Moment drug dealer re-arrested as he leaves prison

A man who admitted dealing drugs from his prison cell can be seen on police footage being arrested moments after he was released from jail for his previous crimes. Samuel Watts, 34, from Northwich, was handcuffed as he left HMP Kirkham, near Preston, on 21 November last year just after he finished serving a sentence for supplying cocaine and cannabis and possessing a weapon. Watts faced Burnley Crown Court on Thursday where he was jailed for a further four years and four months. In the police footage, the arresting Cheshire Police officer can be heard telling Watts he was being arrested in relation to a phone that had been found on him in prison, saying: "I know it's not ideal news." Watts admitted supplying cocaine from his jail cell after police found a phone strapped to his waist during a search, which contained messages showing he had continued to deal drugs from behind bars. PC Dan Lee, from Cheshire Police, said: "Hopefully this time he will use his time behind bars to reflect upon his actions rather than trying to set up another business venture." This is the shocking moment a drug dealer was arrested at the prison gates - just seconds after leaving jail. Samuel Watts had just been released from HMP Kirkham after a three-year sentence for a drug dealing plot, but only tasted freedom for a matter of seconds. As he left the prison gates, officers placed the criminal in handcuffs as he can be heard saying 'you don't know what I've gone through'. After being placed under arrest in November, Watts has now been jailed for another four years and four months after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (cocaine) while serving a prison sentence. The 34-year-old, of Thornley Green, was originally locked up in September 2023 for dealing cocaine and cannabis, Burnley Crown Court was told. In July last year, officers at Northwich Proactive CID discovered intelligence suggesting Watts was in possession of a mobile and was coordinating the sale of drugs from his prison cell. His freedom lasted two seconds before he was cuffed

A drug dealer's taste of freedom was short-lived. Footage shows how police arrested Samuel Watts as he took just one step into the outside. As a sliding prison door opens he is handcuffed immediatley when leaving HMP Kirkham. A police officer says "hello Sam" and tells him he is being arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cocaine. Looking bemused he complains: "Do you understand what I've gone through in the last three months". He is then escorted to a waiting police van. In July 2024 officers at Northwich Proactive CID discovered intelligence suggesting that Watts was in possession of a mobile phone and was coordinating the sale of illegal drugs in Northwich from his prison cell. Following the discovery, officers arranged for Watts to be searched in his cell, where prison officers discovered an Apple iPhone which was strapped to his waist. The phone was later analysed by officers at Northwich who recovered a catalogue of messages which proved he was involved in the sale of illegal drugs. Watts was later arrested on Thursday 21 November 2024, as he left HMP Kirkham following his release for his previous offences. Watts appeared at Burnley Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 5 June) where he was sentenced to four years and four months in prison.
