Majuli conducts pre-Lok Adalat for swift dispute resolution

1 2 Dibrugarh: Majuli District Legal Services Authority has launched a comprehensive pre-Lok Adalat initiative from Aug 16 to Sept 12, culminating in the National Lok Adalat on Sept 13. This effort, aligned with directives from the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), aims to deliver accessible and timely justice through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The Lok Adalat will take up a wide range of compoundable cases, including civil disputes, matrimonial matters, cheque bounce cases, and issues under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. It will also address pre-litigation disputes such as bank loan defaults, electricity bill arrears, and BSNL telephone dues — offering people a chance to resolve matters before formal legal proceedings begin. Notices have already been issued by the chief judicial magistrate and the munsif judicial magistrate of Majuli to plaintiffs and defendants in pending cases, encouraging them to participate in the pre-Lok Adalat for amicable settlements. Cases resolved during this phase will be formally concluded on Sept 13, subject to mutual consent. Authorities have also reached out to consumers involved in pre-litigation disputes, urging them to visit their respective banks, BSNL, or APDCL offices within the designated period to negotiate settlements. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 Most Gorgeous Women, Ranked BigGlobalTravel Undo Even those who haven't received formal notices are encouraged to contact the Majuli District Legal Services Authority or call the helpline to initiate resolution. Yashpal Singh, chairman of the Majuli District Legal Services Authority and District & Sessions Judge, emphasised the importance of public participation. "The Lok Adalat system is designed to deliver justice swiftly and without the usual complexities of court procedures. We urge all eligible parties to come forward and take advantage of this opportunity," he said. Sandeep Kaushik, secretary of the authority, said, "Resolving disputes through Lok Adalat ensures final and binding outcomes, eliminating prolonged legal battles. This is a chance for people to settle matters efficiently and move forward." A key feature of the Lok Adalat is that cases settled through this mechanism cannot be appealed, ensuring finality in resolutions. The Majuli District Legal Services Authority has called upon all concerned people to actively participate and benefit from this expedited justice process.
