Virginia drops multiple places in CNBC's Top States for Business
After a year in the top spot, Virginia has dropped to No. 4 in America's Top States for Business list, though the state remains a business powerhouse. Virginia's neighbor North Carolina claimed the top spot for 2025, CNBC revealed Thursday. Last year, Virginia barely beat then No. 2 North Carolina. The cable and satellite business news TV channel reported the results from aboard the Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington. The network's study scores all 50 states on 135 metrics across 10 categories of competitiveness. Virginia scored 1,578 out of a possible 2,500 points, ranking No. 1 for education and second for infrastructure. The state also ranked in the top 10 for quality of life, technology and innovation, business friendliness and access to capital. The study revealed that budget cuts and tariffs dropped Virginia to 14th for economy. CNBC special correspondent Scott Cohn said this is Virginia's worst showing since 2018. Virginia outmatches other states in being ranked No. 1 six times on the list since the project began in 2007. The 2025 top five states include No. 2 Texas, No. 3 Florida and No. 5 Ohio. Frontier Airlines offers nonstop flights from Norfolk to Dallas-Fort Worth
Frontier Airlines now flies direct from Norfolk International Airport to Dallas-Fort Worth. This week, the Colorado-based carrier, known for its low fares, began to offer nonstop flights two days a week to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport for an introductory cost of $69. Additional fees are applied for baggage and advance seat assignments. Tickets must be purchased a week before flights scheduled from May 30 to Aug. 18 by the end of June 7 to secure the introductory fare. Frontier first started operations from Norfolk in August 2018 with flights to Denver, Colorado, and Orlando, Florida. The wait is over: Trader Joe's is coming to Virginia Beach's Town Center
The guessing game is over; it's official: Trader Joe's will open a second location in the Town Center area of Virginia Beach. Nakia Rohde, public relations manager for the California-based grocery store chain, wrote in an email on Tuesday that there are plans to open a new store in the city, though she added that she does not yet have a location or date for when it might open. But an ABC notice of application for a Trader Joe's at 220 Constitution Drive in Virginia Beach was listed on Feb. 17 in the legal notices of The Virginian-Pilot. The store will lease a 14,000-square-foot space previously occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond near the Regal movie theater at Columbus Village.
