Spout Springs man faces Dec. 1 murder trial
A 19-year-old Spout Springs man faces a Dec. 1 first-degree murder trial in the shooting death of James Devon Snipes, 17, stemming from Aug. 22, 2023.
Tevion Jamear Hancock was arrested Aug. 23, 2023 following a police chase that ended with Snipes' mother's stolen Hyundai Tucson crashed at 1505 Broadway Road in Sanford.
Snipes' body was found two days later in a wooded area near Buffalo Lakes Road and Cooks Lane in Harnett County, according to reports.
At the time, Hancock was about a month shy of his 18th birthday. Hancock, who listed an address at Pine Haven Drive southwest of the Carolina Lakes Golf Course, is being held on a $1 million bond in the Harnett County Jail.
Two other juveniles were arrested at the time of the vehicle crash, including Cordarius Goldson, 18, of the 2600 block of Quail Forest Drive in Fayetteville. Goldston also faces a Dec. 1 trial for conspiracy to commit murder and is being held on a $1 million bond at the Harnett County Jail.
Hancock is also charged with conspiracy to murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied property.
In regard to the latter, Hancock allegedly fired on a home at 668 Nicole Drive, west of Buffalo Lake Road, when it was occupied by Bonita Woods and Zul Hilliard on Aug. 23, 2023, according to eCourts.
Snipes' mother reported her son and her vehicle missing on Aug. 22, 2023, according to a previous Sanford Herald report.
