Congress, BRS scratching each other's backs: MoS Bandi Sanjay
KARIMNAGAR: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday accused both the ruling Congress and the Opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS of working hand in glove over the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) and the phone-tapping case. Sanjay alleged that the two parties had a quid pro quo arrangement to shield each other from corruption and mislead the public. Reacting to BRS working president KTR's warning of legal action if he failed to withdraw his remarks, Sanjay stated, 'Name any temple, I will come there with my family. Will you also come with your wife, children, and parents? Will you make them swear that you have no connection with phone-tapping? I, along with my family, will swear that you did. If you don't believe in temples, we can go to a mosque or a church. Are you ready for such an oath?' he asked. Sanjay also said the SIT was not competent to issue notices to judges and demanded that the phone-tapping case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ED, alleging it involved extortion. Responding to criticism from both BRS and Congress on whether he distrusted the SIT, he clarified that he trusted the agency but not the Congress-led state government. He accused the government of probing multiple scams but failing to act on them.

SC stays Rajasthan HC order restraining rape accused's US-based wife from travelling abroad as ‘collateral'
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed a Rajasthan High Court order asking a rape accused's wife, employed in the US, to remain in India as a 'collateral' if he wished to travel abroad for a job. A bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and Satish Chandra Sharma issued notice to the Rajasthan government in the matter on the appeal filed by a software engineer, accused of raping a woman on the promise of marriage. The SC further directed the man to deposit Rs 2 lakh as surety for foreign travel. According to the prosecution, the man was booked on rape charges by the Christianganj police station in Ajmer after it was alleged that he met a woman on a matrimonial website and maintained close acquaintance with her for four years on the promise of marriage. Advocate Ashwani Dubey, appearing for the engineer, submitted that the wife was neither an accused nor a party to the case. He said no notice was issued by the Rajasthan HC and yet it passed an order restraining the petitioner. 'The wife, who is neither accused nor heard, is restrained from travelling abroad, purely to offset a hypothetical apprehension that the husband will abscond,' Dubey argued. The plea said the high court, in a violation of the 'procedural impropriety' and without hearing or impleading his wife, who is currently employed in the US, and ignoring the fact that she was not a part of the criminal case, directed her to remain in India. It was also argued that the HC direction was 'erroneous' and violative of the fundamental rights under Article 21 of the Constitution.

Phone tapping row: Bandi Sanjay urges CBI, ED intervention
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Friday demanded that the Congress government seek the assistance of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to trace the money laundering trail in the alleged phone tapping case during the previous BRS regime. Speaking to the media after deposing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Hyderabad, the senior BJP leader and Karimnagar MP alleged that during former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's tenure, former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief Prabhakar Rao and his close aides, including Praveen Rao and Radhakishan Rao, blackmailed politicians and contractors under the pretext of Maoist surveillance, extorting large sums of money. 'Where did all the money, including ₹7 crore extorted from a Congress Party candidate in Khammam go?' he asked. Mr. Sanjay Kumar claimed that except for KCR, K.T. Rama Rao and Santosh Kumar, phones of all other BRS leaders, including Kavitha and T. Harish Rao, were tapped. He alleged that over 6,500 phones were under surveillance during that period, severely damaging the reputation of the SIB. He further stated that phones belonging to his associates, himself, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, judges, and several others were illegally monitored during the BRS government's tenure. He questioned why the Congress government has not made any arrests so far. 'We have nothing against the SIT, but why is the Chief Minister not appearing before it? Will they dare summon judges to depose? Who is Mr. Revanth Reddy to give a clean chit to KCR? Why mislead the public with commissions and probes?' he asked, referring to recent remarks made by the Chief Minister in Delhi. The Minister questioned whether the Congress government has the 'guts' to arrest KCR or his family members for their alleged involvement in phone tapping and other scams worth thousands of crores. 'It's been over a year since Mr. Revanth Reddy took charge, but apart from time-pass commissions and probes, there has been no concrete action against BRS leaders despite overwhelming evidence,' he said. 'Doesn't this suggest an understanding between the Congress and BRS? We don't trust this government. KCR is influencing Congress leaders in Delhi with his ill-gotten wealth. His corruption has become an 'ATM' for the Delhi leadership,' alleged the BJP leader. Mr. Sanjay Kumar asserted that if the case were handed over to the CBI, KCR and KTR would already be behind bars. 'You (Congress govt.) do not have the courage to act against them, then what's your objection to handing over the case to the CBI?' he asked.
