Gkp hosp joins elite league with rare surgery

Lucknow/Gorakhpur: With a rare and complex surgery performed on a cancer patient, Mahayogi Gorakhnath University Gorakhpur (MGUG) Hospital has joined the league of a few institutions in the country capable of undertaking such advanced procedures. On Tuesday, an official spokesperson shared the case of an elderly patient from Kanyakumari, who underwent surgery for the removal of a rare parotid gland cancer. The procedure was led by surgical oncologist and medical director of MP Birla Group of Hospitals, Dr Sanjay Maheshwari, along with his medical team. "This hospital has become one of the few institutions in the country capable of performing complex cancer surgeries," the spokesperson said. Sharing further details about the case, Dr Maheshwari said, "A 76-year-old patient from Kanyakumari learned about the cancer treatments being carried out at the hospital over the past few months. The patient had a complex and rare form of salivary gland cancer and came to MGUG with renewed hope after seeking treatment elsewhere. He was recently operated on at MGUG." Notably, the hospital has previously performed successful modified radical mastectomy (MRM) surgeries for cancer. Registrar Dr Pradeep Kumar Rao expressed satisfaction over the successful handling of this rare and complex cancer case at the hospital and said a similar surgery had been done on a cancer patient from IIT Guwahati.
