Five Percent Job Reservation Approved for Gosikhurd Project Affected Students

Bhandara: A solution was finally found to the difficulties faced by Gosikhurd project-affected certificate holder students in the govt job selection process during a special meeting held between the Bhandara guardian minister Sanjay Savkare and relief and rehabilitation minister Makrand Jadhav. The cabinet had approved a special financial package of Rs 1199 crores for the Gosikhurd project. Under this package, some project-affected families accepted compensation of Rs 2.90 lakhs instead of rehabilitation. This created obstacles in the certificate verification process for concerned students, depriving them of the benefit of 5 percent reservation. Taking note of this issue, Savkare pursued the matter vigorously and clarified through govt decisions dated July 18 2013, August 18 2015 and October 29 2009 that project-affected persons were eligible to apply for 5 percent reserved posts in the project-affected category. Due to this positive decision, Gosikhurd project-affected certificate holder students were now fully eligible to compete for govt jobs under the 5 percent parallel reservation. Their project-affected status and eligibility for govt jobs based on it remained intact, as communicated to the District Collector's office through a letter from the Revenue and Forest Department. This decision will benefit thousands of project-affected youth and marked an important milestone for their future.
