Is Saiyaara copied from Korean classic A Moment to Remember? Film's writer Sankalp Sadanah breaks his silence
Mohit Suri's romantic drama Saiyaara is enjoying a dream run at the box office, having crossed ₹500 crore globally. Featuring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in lead roles, it has emerged as one of the year's biggest hits. However, amid the applause, a controversy has surfaced, with a section of viewers alleging that Saiyaara is lifted from the Korean classic A Moment to Remember. Writer Sankalp Sadanah urges viewers to watch both films and form their own opinions on the similarities. Writer Sankal Sadanah speaks out if Saiyaara is a copy Now, the film's writer, Sankalp Sadanah, has addressed the comparisons for the first time. Speaking to trade analyst Komal Nahta, Sankalp dismissed the plagiarism claims and urged audiences to form their own opinions. 'Honestly, so much has already been said about this. All I can say is — the Korean film is out there, and so is Saiyaara. Watch both and judge for yourself. You'll be able to tell whether it's inspired, a copy, or an original.' Shedding light on the film's origin, Sankalp shared that Saiyaara was born not from a structured screenplay, but from a moment of pure emotion during a casual meeting with Mohit Suri in Bandra. 'There was talk of a sequel to another project — Aashiqui 3, to be precise. It was raining when we came back from a meeting. As I was about to leave, Mohit asked me to stay back and listen to something. He shared an idea and asked if it was worth building into a film,' Sankalp recalled. The idea that eventually became Saiyaara wasn't driven by plot mechanics or formulas. According to Sankalp, the emotional seed of the film came from a single line — one that eventually made its way into the film. Despite the noise around it, Saiyaara continues to draw audiences in with its storytelling, soulful music, and fresh pairing of two rising stars. What is the similarity between the two films? Viewers found Saiyaara and the Korean film A Moment to Remember share thematic similarities, particularly their focus on a romantic relationship tested by memory loss. In both stories, a young couple faces the emotional turmoil of one partner suffering from a degenerative memory condition, with the male lead becoming a devoted caregiver. The films emphasise unconditional love, emotional endurance, and the pain of forgetting shared memories.

''Saiyaara' is not a copy': Writer Sankalp Sadanah breaks silence, urges viewers to judge for themselves
'Saiyaara,' the much-talked-about debut of Ahaan Panday , has been under scrutiny ever since it hit the theaters, with comparisons being drawn to the Korean film A Moment to Remember. Addressing the controversy, the film's writer, Sankalp Sadanah, finally opened up, insisting that the Mohit Suri directorial is not a copy of any pre-existing work. In a candid chat with Komal Nahta, Sankalp urged audiences to make their own judgment. "The Korean film is out there, and so is 'Saiyaara.' Watch both and decide if it's inspired, a copy, or something original,' he said. A film born from a feeling, not a format Sadanah shared that the emotional seed of 'Saiyaara' was sown during a rainy evening after a casual meeting with director Mohit Suri. Just as he was about to leave, Suri pitched a heartfelt idea to him. 'There was no story, no characters—just a line that stuck with us: 'A hit song isn't the one that stays in your head; it's the one that stays in your heart.' That was enough to build an entire world around,' Sankalp said, emphasizing that the film came from a place of genuine emotion, not imitation. The story behind 'Saiyaara' Directed by Mohit Suri, 'Saiyaara' follows the emotionally charged journey of Krish Kapoor (Ahaan Panday), an aspiring singer, and Vaani Batra (Aneet Padda), a determined young journalist. As their love story unfolds, it encounters the complexities of ambition, societal expectations, and emotional vulnerability. While parallels with 'A Moment to Remember,' which explores early-onset Alzheimer's, have been noted, Sankalp maintains 'Saiyaara' has a unique voice. The movie is surely the most sensational hit this year, and it deserves all the success for sure. Saiyaara - Official Teaser

Saiyaara writers asked ChatGPT to suggest film's climax, the response made them laugh: ‘It said hero and heroine should both…'
Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, and starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has become one of the most successful love stories from Bollywood. The film's writers, Sankalp Sadanah and Rohan Shankar, recently shared that when they were trying to come up with the film's climax, they tried everything but couldn't find a solution that fit the tone of their film. Sankalp, who worked on the film's climax with director Mohit Suri, said that at one point, one of his assistants asked ChatGPT for suggestions for the film's climax, in jest. In a chat with Komal Nahta on his YouTube channel, Sankalp was asked about how he came up with the film's beautiful happy ending and he shared that he had written the entire screenplay of the film, but was yet to crack the climax. He shared, 'We had written the whole story but we were yet to crack the climax. We didn't know what the resolution of the film will be. At that point, I had an assistant Chetan Naidu and he asked ChatGPT also, just for fun. There was no seriousness behind it. He asked, 'How would Mohit Suri end such a movie?' And it responded by saying that hero and heroine should both die.' Sankalp laughed as he shared this anecdote and said that even Mohit Suri was thinking that the heroine's story could end in tragedy, given her condition. 'Even Mohit was thinking that given the heroine's condition, it was inching towards a tragedy. But we couldn't crack it. Then one day, I was stuck in traffic and it just came to me,' he said.
