Telangana is a role model for ensuring food security to people: Deputy CM Bhatti
Telangana has emerged as a role model in the country for ensuring food security for the poor, both in terms of the number of beneficiaries and quantity of fine rice (Sanna Biyyam) distributed, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. He added that ration cards are being issued not only to the poorest but also to economically backward middle-class families. Addressing a public gathering organised at Bonakal mandal centre in Madhira constituency in the district on Monday during the distribution of new ration cards, the Deputy CM said, 'Out of the 1.15 crore families in the State, 93 lakh families have been issued ration cards, and they are receiving subsidized fine rice under the public government's welfare programmes. Each individual in a family is being provided 6 kg of fine rice per month — a record in the history of India,' he said. Mr. Vikramarka mentioned that many newly married couples, and others who waited for over ten years for inclusion of names, additions and changes in ration cards, had been left disappointed during the previous regime. 'But now, the long wait has finally ended. He proudly announced that in Madhira constituency alone, 13,767 new beneficiaries are being issued ration cards in a single day — a matter of great satisfaction,' he said. The Deputy Chief Minister also emphasised that the government is not only focusing on welfare schemes but also implementing large-scale development programmes. Welfare and development are moving forward like the two wheels of a chariot, Mr. Vikramarka said. The Deputy CM revealed that the Roads & Buildings department has taken up ₹20,000 crore worth of road development works across the State. To provide world-class education to students, Young India Residential Schools are being established and made accessible, he added.

‘Sanna' biyyam-‘Pedda' publicity: Cong set to cash in on scheme for victory in local body polls
Hyderabad: Buoyedby the 'success' of sanna biyyam scheme, which touched 95% of the distribution for 3-months ration (June, July and August), the Congress party is making all out effort to encash it now. The scheme is being highlighted as part of a campaign for upcoming local body polls, even as the number of beneficiaries receiving ration in the state has reached 3.14 crore. According to party sources, despite the financial crunch faced during the implementation of six guarantees, the distribution of sanna biyyam has brought accolades to the present Congress government. The party leaders are planning to use this as a campaign to win a large number of sarpanches and MPPs in the elections. It is being predicted that the state government's bold decision to introduce the Sanna Biyyam scheme remains the most popular scheme to encash in the local body elections. While the state's share was Rs 5,175 crore annually during the supply of coarse rice, another Rs 3,000 crore of additional burden was incurred with Sanna Biyyam. In the first week of April, the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy launched the Sanna Biyyam scheme in Huzurnagar constituency. Later, when the Center announced that the beneficiaries would be given rice for 3-months at a time, it further benefited the Congress government. The number of beneficiaries receiving ration in the state has reached 3.14 crore. In the previous government, there were only 2.84 crore beneficiaries, while there were 91 lakh cards. After the Congress government came to power, it immediately started accepting applications for new ration cards and selected the eligible. 10 lakh applications were received for new ration cards and 16 lakh applications for adding family members. With such a large number of beneficiaries, Congress leaders are calculating that if at least 70 percent of them support the Congress party in the local elections, this would ensure a win of 25 to 28 chairmen for 32 Zilla Parishads. The partymen are also campaigning against BRS, emphasising that the pink party has never been serious about the PDS and failed even to issue new ration cards during its ten years of rule. In contrast Congress government has accepted new applications and granting 2.50 lakh people new cards after assuming power. With the overwhelming response from the people, the ruling party leaders in the villages are highlighting the Sanna Biyyam scheme to the voters. As part of the campaign they are also promising that if the party wins the local body elections, the State government will introduce more welfare schemes.

Missed the bus, No worries! Ration card holders can draw ‘Sanna Biyyam' in Sept
Hyderabad: With June 30 being the last day for collecting the 3-months ration, those who failed to receive will be able to get the next entitlements only in September. So far, the Civil Supplies department supplied 5.414 lakh MTs, totalling 94.62 per cent from allocations. According to official sources, the awareness amongst the people and State government's decision to distribute Sanna Biyyam for the first time this time was 94.62 per cent, distributed from the total allocation of 5.722 lakh MTs for the months of June, July and August, topping the distribution in this one and half year (present government). While PDS (Public Distribution System) stood below 90 % before the launch of Sanna Biyyam scheme, after its launch (in April) it was recorded 91.96 % in April and 91.45 % in May. While the entire year of 2024 witnessed 89 % with a total distribution of 19 lakh MTs from allocations of 21 lakh MTs. 'Before Sannabiyyam, the average rice distribution was 88% due to low acceptance of coarse rice among the beneficiaries. After Sanna Biyyam (April onwards), the distribution improved to an average of 91.96% with the introduction of fine rice. In June, a 3-month ration was provided in advance and close to 95 % of the total rice has been distributed. The consistent rise in distribution, even during a high-load, 3-month advance cycle, proves that Sanna Biyyam is not only better accepted but also strengthening the efficiency of the PDS system in Telangana,' officials told The Hans India. By the end of June, the districts of Hyderabad (104%), Medchal (116%) and Ranga Reddy (111%) had crossed the distribution of over 100 %. This overwhelming response is attributed to collection by residents who are native to other States. The 'One Nation One Ration Card' (ONORC) scheme was launched in 2019 with inter-state portability. This was initially introduced in four states and extended to other states as well. The scheme aims to ensure food security for all, including migrant workers, by allowing them to access PDS benefits from any fair price shop across the country. The distribution continued throughout the month from June 1. It peaked between June 3 and June 14. During the last days of the month only few remaining collected the rice, as the distribution mechanism was declared closed till September.
