High-speed crash: Tractor crushes two men on way to job interview in Noida; both die on spot

NOIDA: They set out hoping it would be a day of new beginnings. But two friends who were on their way to a job interview died in an accident in Sector 63 on Monday after a tractor rammed their bike from behind. Police have taken the tractor driver into custody and impounded the vehicle. Krishna Kumar (25) and Subhash (27) had met up around 9 am and were going to the factory in Sector 65 together. Around 10 minutes later, a sand-laden tractor headed to Gadhi roundabout hit them barely 100 metres from the Chhijarsi roundabout. The two men and their bike got stuck in front of the tractor and were dragged for several metres before being run over and crushed under its wheels, police said. After passersby alerted cops, a unit from Sector 63 station rushed the two to a nearby hospital but they were declared dead by doctors on arrival. Following the accident, a crowd gathered on the Chhijarsi main road, leading to a traffic jam. Officials reached the spot and dispersed the crowd, after which traffic flow gradually resumed. Eyewitnesses told cops the tractor was approaching at a high speed and the driver seemed to have lost control of the vehicle before ploughing into the bike. It was not immediately known who was riding the bike and who was seated as the pillion. Subhash's brother-in-law told cops that the youth had come to Ghaziabad's Bahrampur with his wife from Bihar's Vaishali some years ago and was looking for a job. He recently heard about a vacancy in a Sector 65 factory and was keen about the job. Krishna Kumar, who was originally from Hathras, tied the knot last Dec. He lived in Noida's Sector 63. A complaint has been submitted by his uncle in the case. DCP (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthy said a case was registered under BNS sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash or negligent driving on a public way). Cops are checking footage of CCTV cameras installed around the spot to ascertain the chain of events. The city recorded 1,165 accidents last year in which 462 people died and 966 people were injured. Speeding and wrong-side driving were among the top reasons behind road crash fatalities. On April 20, a 25-year-old food delivery agent was killed when a speeding motorcycle rammed his bike near Sector 72. On April 7, a 25-year-old ice cream vendor died after a speeding Santro hit his cart near Ryan roundabout in Greater Noida. During investigation, police found the driver rammed into several other carts nearby, but no one else was injured.

Missing Gurgaon MNC manager returns home; went to Ayodhya ‘for peace'

Days after he was reported missing, a 42-year-old manager at a multinational company in Gurgaon returned home on Friday, police said. He had gone to Ayodhya in 'search of peace', they added. Police said the man, Ajay Srivastava, was stressed about loans that he had taken from a few people. Around 5 am on Sunday, Ajay left home in his car. On Monday morning, his car — a white Santro — was found unlocked and abandoned near a canal in Dwarka's Kakrola in Delhi. Police were alerted about the vehicle through a PCR call, and a team visited the spot. 'There were no signs of a struggle… and no suspicious material was found inside the vehicle,' the police had said in a statement. A missing persons report had been filed, it added. 'Teams combed the canal using a forklift and an earthmover… Fire department officials, too, visited the spot and divers from the Rescue Boat Club searched the water,' a police officer had said. But nothing was found. Using the car's registration number, police managed to trace the owner, Ram Naresh Srivastava — he turned out to be Ajay's father. According to Ram Naresh, Ajay, who lives in Najafgarh's Nangli Vihar, had been working from home for some time. 'According to his relatives, Ajay did not have problems with his family members. The family did not raise any allegations or suspicions,' an officer had said. Describing the missing person, police had said that Ajay is 5 feet 7 inches tall, fair-complexioned with a round face and medium build. He was last seen wearing a green full-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and black sports shoes. On Friday, to his family's surprise and relief, Ajay returned home. He told police that he was under the burden of debt and wanted some peace, the officer added. Police said that Ajay's medical examination is being conducted, and he will also be counselled. Ajay had also formatted his mobile phone before going to Ayodhya. 'He tried to mislead the police by staging his disappearance to escape the financial burden,' the police officer said. Several CCTVS were also checked and his location was later traced in Ayodhya, where he stayed in a dharmshala, the officer added.

‘Missing' MNC manager found hiding in Ayodhya

New Delhi: Days after a 42-year-old man working as a manager at a Gurgaon-based multinational company went missing mysteriously, he has resurfaced alive in Ayodhya. His unlocked white Santro car, found abandoned near a drain in southwest Delhi's Kakrola, had initially sparked fears of a suicide. However, police said he carefully staged his disappearance in a bid to escape mounting debt. According to police sources, the man returned to Delhi days after triggering a major search operation involving the fire service and rescue teams. The case first came to light after a PCR call reported a suspiciously parked vehicle, leading authorities to believe the man may have jumped into the drain. But several details raised doubts. The car was unlocked, and no personal belongings were found inside. Adding to the mystery, the man had formatted his mobile phone the day before he vanished. As investigators turned to digital tracking, surveillance footage and technical analysis eventually led them to Ayodhya, where the man was found staying discreetly at a dharmshala, completely cut off from his normal life.

On Monday morning, police said, his unlocked car was found abandoned near a canal in Dwarka's Kakrola. There was no sign of Srivastava. The police traced the car's registration number and contacted its owner, Ram Naresh Srivastava — Ajay's father. According to Ram Naresh, Ajay, who stays in Najafgarh's Nangli Vihar, had been working from home for some time. 'The canal was checked with a forklift and an earthmover… Fire department officials, too, visited the spot and divers from the Rescue Boat Club searched the waters,' said DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh. The search was unfruitful. 'According to his relatives, Ajay did not have problems with his family members. The family did not raise any allegations or suspicions,' the DCP added. Early morning, the Dwarka North police station received a PCR call alerting them about an unattended white Santro car parked near the Kakrola canal, police said. Police said that Ajay's friends and co-workers are being questioned. The call detail records of Ajay, his family, and relatives are also being analysed. Describing the missing person, police said that Ajay is 5 feet 7 inches tall, fair-complexioned with a round face and medium build. He was last seen wearing a green full-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and black sports shoes.
