SELC 2025 holds Jolly Phonics Masterclass on English to empower educators
KUCHING (July 31): The Sarawak English Literacy Conference (SELC) 2025 will host an exclusive Jolly Phonics Masterclass on Sept 19, 2025, at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here.
The full-day training aims to inspire and equip educators with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to teach early literacy through the acclaimed Jolly Phonics programme.
Jolly Phonics is a systematic, multi-sensory phonics programme designed to help children learn to read and write.
It focuses on teaching the letter sounds of the English language, letter formation, blending, segmenting, and identifying sounds in words, all through an engaging and interactive approach.
The programme uses a wide variety of methods, including stories, songs, actions, and games, to accommodate different learning styles, making it an ideal introduction to literacy for young learners.
This masterclass is specially curated for teachers, literacy coordinators, preschool educators, and anyone passionate about improving phonics instruction.
Throughout the day, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the five core skills of Jolly Phonics, learn effective and structured techniques to teach 42 English sounds, and explore how to support learners with special educational needs and those learning English as a second language.
The session will also highlight the use of Jolly Classroom and digital tools to enhance daily lessons, while offering practical tips for teaching children with diverse learning needs.
The training will be led by a panel of expert trainers from Jolly Learning, including Yvonne Dalorto, Dr Susan Whittaker, Creena Alison Wong, Elaine Marcia Wong, and Natalie Southgate.
