Man dies after being struck by car in crash that closed road for 12 hours

A man has died after being struck by a car in Aberdeen. Emergency services were called to the scene on Dyce Drive near to Upper Kirkton, Dyce, at around 10.45pm on Thursday. The incident involved a black Citroen C1 car and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers said there were no other reported injuries. The road was closed for investigations and reopened around 10.15am on Friday, May 16. Police Scotland is urging anyone with information regarding the collision to come forward. Sergeant Sarah Ritchie said: 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died at this difficult time. 'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us. 'We also ask anyone driving in the area at the time to check if they have dash-cam footage that can help with our investigation. 'Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 4124 of May 15, 2025.' A 52-year-old woman has died after a car and lorry crashed in services were called to the A947 Aberdeen to Banff road, north of Oldmeldrum, shortly before 08: collision involved a red Fiat 500 car and a white Scania HGV Scotland said the female driver of the Fiat was pronounced dead at the scene. Sgt Sarah Ritchie, appealing for witnesses, said: "Our thoughts are with the families of those involved and I would like to thank members of the public who stopped and assisted at the scene. "Our inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing, however, I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen the crash or the two vehicles prior to the incident to get in touch. I would also ask anyone with footage to check it and pass on any relevant images."The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched one ambulance and a special operations team to the scene.

A man who died after being hit by a car on the A96 has been named by police. Gordon Smith, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene on Friday morning at about 07:15 after a crash involving a blue Ford Fiesta near Colpy. Sgt Sarah Ritchie of the North East Road Policing Unit said the force's thoughts were with the family and friends of Mr Smith, who was from Aberdeenshire. The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 26-year-old woman, was uninjured after the incident on the the Huntly to Inverurie Road. More stories from North East Scotland, Orkney and Shetland Listen to news from North East Scotland on BBC Sounds Sgt Ritchie added that officers were keen to trace the driver of an HGV, which was seen in the area at the time of the crash. She said: "Our inquiries into the circumstances of the collision continue and I would urge anyone that was driving on the A96 near Colpy around 7.15am on Friday, to get in touch with us. "We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a HGV, which had been driving north towards Huntly at the time." Anyone with any details into the incident should contact Police Scotland.
