1 criminal shot at, 5 held in STF-police operation
Patna: One criminal was shot in the leg and five others were arrested in a joint operation by Patna police and the Special Task Force (STF) in the Bikram police station area of the district on Thursday evening.
Police said the arrested men are wanted in several criminal cases in Bikram and other police station areas.
According to officials, police received a tip-off on Thursday night that a gang was planning a major crime. While conducting vehicle checks near Nisarpura village in Bikram, officers spotted six men on two motorcycles who attempted to flee. Police managed to detain three suspects from one motorcycle. The others opened fire, prompting police to return fire, injuring one suspect in the leg.
He and another accomplice were then arrested.
One criminal managed to escape.
City SP (west), Sarath RS, said, "The arrested criminals were found with four pistols, two magazines, two cellphones and two motorcycles. The arrested people were identified as Ankit Kumar from Bihta, Jitendra Kumar from Parsa Bazaar, Sonu Kumar from Khagaul, Shubham alias Reyansh Kumar from Phulwari Sharif, Ritik Kumar Yadav alias Sujeet Kumar from Patna and Vishal Kumar from Bikram."
Except for Sonu Kumar, all of the arrested have prior criminal records, including charges of murder and robbery, and have served time in jail. Investigations suggest they were operating as an organised gang.
"They gathered to execute another major crime, but the police were alerted in time. There is a possibility that their network extends to the prison, which is also under investigation. The police are working to apprehend the one criminal who is still at large," the SP added.
