MIRI (Aug 16): Sarawak is rapidly moving towards becoming a developed state, with growth in emerging sectors such as the digital economy, renewable energy, and high-technology industries, said State Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. Speaking at the Sarawak Education Expo and Career Day here today, Lee emphasised that education plays a crucial role in preparing the younger generation for these changes. 'All of this requires human capital that is skilled, knowledgeable, and competitive at the global level. Education is the foundation for producing such talent,' he said. Lee noted that the expo provided students with opportunities to explore education pathways, learn about scholarships and financial assistance, and gain early exposure to skills needed in the future job market. He also thanked Yayasan Sarawak for sponsoring the event and for recognising the achievements of outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) students from the 2024 cohort. 'This effort serves as an encouragement for students to continue striving for excellence in their examinations, with the hope of receiving similar recognition in the future,' he added. This year's expo brought together 288 students from schools across Miri, including recipients of the SPM and STPM Excellence Awards. 'To all students, do not miss this chance. Observe, listen, ask questions, and record the information you gain today,' Lee advised. He urged students to plan their futures with confidence and determination. 'Remember, success does not come by chance. It demands continuous effort, discipline, and perseverance,' he stressed. The event, supported by the Miri District Education Office, also featured participation from educational institutions, agencies, and industry players. Lee expressed hope that the programme would benefit all participants and inspire students to pursue their goals with commitment and resilience. digital economy high tech Lee Kim Shin renewable energy skills
