Mass protests condemn Gaza brutality, urge Muslim unity
Five major protest rallies were held across Rawalpindi to Israel's ongoing military aggression against Palestine, its brutal campaign in Gaza, and attacks on women and children, with protesters urging Muslim leaders for real and tangible actions, a complete boycott of Israeli products and an urgent Islamic Summit Conference on the burning issue. Demonstrators burned Israeli flags and effigies of Israeli leaders, bringing traffic to a complete standstill across key parts of the city. Protesters carried placards and banners condemning Israeli atrocities and raised slogans not only against Israel but also against its allies. Calls were made for the Muslim Ummah to unite and take decisive action against Israeli aggression. Friday was observed as a Black Day in protest of Israel's actions. During Friday sermons, religious leaders and scholars highlighted the Palestinian issue and prayed for the success of the besieged, unarmed Palestinian people. The rallies were organised by various groups, including Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), local shopkeepers' associations, Jamiat Ahle Sunnat, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), and the Railway Workers' Union. The demonstrations were held at major points including Murree Road, Liaquat Bagh, Railway Station, and Saddar. The District Bar Association (DBA) also staged a protest rally against the atrocities in Gaza. A large number of female lawyers participated, and an effigy of an Israeli official was burned. The rally ended in a sit-in at Kachehri Chowk, completely blocking all adjoining roads and intersections, with even senior government officials' vehicles stuck in traffic. For over an hour, lawyers chanted slogans demanding action. The rally was led by Bar President Sardar Manzar Bashir and Secretary Malik Asad Mehmood, with speeches from other leaders including Taufiq Asif and Madam Tasleem Abbasi. Speakers condemned Israeli oppression, urging Muslim leaders worldwide to move beyond mere verbal condemnation and take real, tangible actions. They called for a complete boycott of Israeli products and demanded an urgent Islamic Summit Conference to issue a united and firm message from the Muslim world. After the gathering, a large procession marched from Quaid-e-Azam Hall to Kachehri Chowk, carrying banners and placards with strong anti-Israel slogans. A separate "Down with Israel" protest rally was held by Sunni Tehreek, during which protestors burned an Israeli flag printed with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's image on Murree Road. Addressing the crowd, Sunni Tehreek's scholar Allama Saeed Akhtar Siddiqui said that the Muslim Ummah had awakened and that the dream of a "Greater Israel" would never be realised.

Rawalpindi courts see spike in bail pleas
With the start of Ramazan, courts across Rawalpindi, including the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court and 100 session, civil, and special courts, have witnessed a surge in bail applications as detainees seek to celebrate Eid with their families. Between the first and sixth day of Ramazan, 1,272 bail applications have been filed across various courts. The courts have admitted all applications for hearing and have summoned police records for review. Among the cases, 510 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers arrested in connection with protests on November 24 and 26 have filed for bail. Another 760 detained workers are expected to submit applications later this week. Regular hearings on these cases will begin on Monday, March 10. Each year, during Ramazan, courts tend to grant bail with leniency for most routine cases, excluding serious offences, leading to record numbers of bail approvals. In line with this, the chief justice of the Lahore High Court has directed all courts to expedite bail applications and acquittal requests based on insufficient evidence. From the 15th of Ramazan onwards, high courts and session courts are expected to decide on bail applications daily, ensuring minimal delays. Government prosecutors have been instructed to be present in court to handle these applications efficiently. Speaking on the matter, District Bar President Sardar Manzar Bashir and High Court Bar President Ahsan Hamid Lillah revealed that an estimated 4,500 to 5,000 bail applications are expected to be filed and processed during Ramadan this year.

Rawalpindi district judiciary goes online
Pakistan's ambassador said that the event would prove to be helpful in building synergies between Pakistani and Turkish technology sectors, the academia and businesses. PHOTO: FILE The Rawalpindi district judiciary has fully digitised its judicial system, making all court proceedings available online. Now, all cases scheduled before the 25 Additional District and Sessions Judges and 75 Civil and Family Judges in Rawalpindi can be accessed by lawyers and litigants from their homes. Punjab's district judiciary has launched a dedicated mobile application called District Judiciary Punjab, which includes details of courts across all 43 districts of the province. Through this app, lawyers, litigants, and even accused individuals can check case proceedings by entering the judge's name or the case number. The app updates daily with information on bail applications, case hearings, and new dates. The Supreme Court Chief Justice, Lahore High Court Chief Justice, and overseas Pakistani litigants can also monitor judicial proceedings through the platform. Sardar Manzar Bashir, President of the District Bar, and Supreme Court Advocate Shanzeib Khan hailed this as a "digital revolution" in the subordinate judiciary. They noted that this initiative eliminates the need to rely on court staff for case updates, making the legal system more transparent and accessible. The app also includes case data from Rawalpindi's sub-divisional courts in Gujar Khan, Taxila, Kallar Syedan, Murree, Kahuta, and Kotli Sattian.
