In This State, You Can Be Fined Rs 5,000 If Your Child Is Caught Playing PUBG

The order, implemented by the village council, aims to wean children off excessive mobile use and redirect their focus toward academics and outdoor sports The menace of mobile gaming addiction and substance abuse in Chhattisgarh's rural belts has prompted panchayats to take unprecedented measures to curb the trend, targeting both children and adults. In Kabirdham district's Gahirabhedi Panchayat, a new rule mandates a Rs 5,000 penalty for parents if their child is caught playing popular online battle games like Free Fire or PUBG/BGMI. The order, implemented by the village council, aims to wean children off excessive mobile use and redirect their focus toward academics and outdoor sports. Village Kotwars have been making repeated announcements to ensure everyone is aware of the rule, with reminders broadcast three times a month. Adding a layer of public involvement, informants who report such violations will be rewarded Rs 1,000 if their tip-off leads to action. Sarpanch Bedbai Porte said that the move was an effort to 'protect children from the harmful grip of mobile addiction" and push them back towards studies, sports, and other productive activities. Meanwhile, in Rajnandgaon district's Mathaldabari Panchayat, the crackdown has shifted toward alcohol abuse. A gram sabha resolution imposes a hefty Rs 31,000 fine on anyone caught selling liquor illegally in the village, along with legal proceedings. Public drinking will cost offenders Rs 10,000. As part of the campaign, villagers collectively pledged to give up alcohol altogether, marking a rare show of united action against substance abuse. Both panchayats say these measures are part of a broader drive to create healthier, more disciplined communities, even if it means hitting violators hard in the pocket. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
